Let’s take a moment to give a huge shoutout to Chef Carla Briggs of Viola’s Heritage, a true force in the kitchen and a proud member of the Baddie with Business community. This past weekend at the 2025 ESSENCE Festival of Culture, Carla stepped on that stage during the Beignet Battle and did what she always does: showed up with purpose, flavor, and a deep respect for tradition.

She cooked, represented and walked away as the Beignet Champion!

We just returned from Rachel Rodgers’ ROI Summit, and it was everything. Rachel dropped so many gems that’ll shift the way we all approach business growth.

Juneteenth is a reminder of how far we’ve come and how much further we’re gonna go.

It’s not just about reflecting on the past it’s about what we do now.

Black women founders in our community are building legacies, and it’s time we show up and invest in them. When we support each other, we all rise. Let’s turn this celebration into action. ✊🏾

is around the corner. A time to reflect on the legacy of freedom, strength, and resilience of our community. We honor the past and recognize that we are the continuation of that fight.

What we’re doing with Baddies with Business is about building on that very legacy. It’s about creating space for Black women to thrive, to lead, and to break barriers just like those who came before us. The work we’re doing isn’t just business it’s building the foundation for future generations of Black women who’ll keep pushing for the freedom and equality we’re still fighting for.

So, this week as we celebrate Juneteenth, let’s also remember that our work is part of that ongoing journey. Whether we’re supporting each other’s businesses, advocating for change, or creating opportunities for others, we’re all part of this legacy.

Let’s make this weekend about honoring what’s been done and doubling down on what’s left to do. We’re writing the next chapter, and it’s one of power, progress, and prosperity.

In case you missed the retreat, the first day of our retreat featured a one of the Baddie Space experience, which included activities that attendees could opt-in. One of the featured activities was the Bloom Bar by .design.flowers ! 🌻🌺🌼🌷🌸🌹

I, Malliron, hand-selected the Bloom Bar because I saw it as a way for the Baddies to receive their flowers while they could still smell them!

It was a celebration of everything we’ve worked for along our journey. We came together to honor ourselves, our accomplishments (big and small), and our passion.

Reflecting on that weekend, and particularly that offering, reminded me that sometimes, we get so caught up in the grind that we forget to pause and celebrate our progress. But let me tell you, this year’s retreat was a perfect reminder that we deserve to stop, reflect, and appreciate how far we’ve come.

Life isn’t just about the finish line; it’s about acknowledging the steps we take to get there. So, if you’ve been out here pushing, growing, and doing the work, this is your moment. Take a second to soak it in. And, just in case you’re feeling MEH today, YOU are worthy.

Now, I’m passing the mic to YOU.

What is a Baddie?

A baddie, as defined by me in this context, is a Black woman that is intentional and passionate about her craft. She is cognizant of what she wants, goes after it, and persists in the midst of the trials and tribulations that come her way. NO she is not superwoman! She is a woman that has ebbs and flows through SUPER situations, and makes it out with new learnings and lessons. She does not always smile, because there is not always a smile to give.
