KHADIJA TEJAN NABIE CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION FOLLOWING THREATS AGAINST JOURNALIST MR. AMADU LAMANARA BAH
On behalf of all law-abiding citizens of the Republic of Sierra Leone, I, Khadija Tejan Nabie, today issued an urgent call to His Excellency the President, Parliamentarians, and all law enforcement personnel in Sierra Leone to investigate and address the serious threats made against the life and safety of Mr. Amadu Lamanara Bah, a journalist with The Truth Platform. These alarming remarks were reportedly made by Madam Admire Bio and her husband during a recent live broadcast.
This incident serves as a critical wake-up call for all stakeholders in Sierra Leone. I Khadija Tejan Nabie unequivocally reminds the government and law enforcement agencies of their fundamental duty to protect journalists and ensure they can exercise their professional roles freely, without fear of intimidation, threats, attacks, abuse of power, nepotism, or favoritism. The safety and security of journalists are paramount to a functioning democracy and the public's right to information.
Mr. Amadu Lamanara Bah, like many other conscientious Sierra Leoneans, is utilizing his voice to combat the proliferation of drugs that pose a significant threat to the well-being and lives of citizens.Threats against individuals engaged in such vital public service undermine efforts to build a safer and healthier society.
This grave concern should be addressed not as a political issue, but as a national imperative to empower law enforcement, particularly the Drug Crime Department, in their efforts to eradicate all harmful drugs in Sierra Leone
I Khadija Tejan Nabie urges a swift and thorough investigation into these threats and calls for appropriate measures to be taken to ensure the safety of Mr. Bah and all journalists in Sierra Leone. We stand in solidarity with Mr. Bah and The Truth Platform in their commitment to fearless journalism.
Respectfully,
Khadija Tejan Nabie
