To Our Friends, Colleagues, Communities, Partners, and Treasured Longtime Readers,

As many of you know, on August 6, 2025, the Moody County Enterprise unexpectedly and officially ceased operations.

The closure was part of a broader decision by our parent company, News Media Corporation, to shut down all of its newspapers in South Dakota, Illinois, Wyoming, Arizona, and Nebraska. This was not a reflection of any wrongdoing but rather a business decision.

There is hope that the South Dakota papers — including the Enterprise — may be purchased and reopened. We’ll share updates here as they become available.

We know how deeply local news matters, we appreciate all of the calls, messages, and visits we’ve had since the closure was announced. Local news matters and the decisions made and events happening impact each of our day to day lives. The Moody County Enterprise has served this community for nearly 150 years, and we remain hopeful for a timely, positive resolution — and the chance to once again bring you the stories that matter most.

Congratulations to the Colman-Egan Boys on their SD Class B track and field state championship title and to the C-E Girls as Class B runner-up. The two teams also won the Combined Title!

Not yet included, as it happened last night, is the decision for Flandreau School's new Superintendent. The district has offered the position to Quinton Cermak, previously with the Highmore-Harrold School District https://tinyurl.com/3c39ttsb. He will take over for longtime educator and administrator Rick Weber, effective July 1, 2025.

Also developing this Tuesday, is a decision before Flandreau's City Council. This evening, Council members will be asked to decide if it will accept the offer to take over the Moody County Ambulance Service.
