UPDATE on the Lowry Hill sexual assault we posted on Saturday.
Original: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Apkc18o3N/

Robert Eugene Schmit, 45, from that awesome Elliot Park Catholic Charities facility, is now charged in Saturday's Lowry Hill alleged sexual assault with 3rd degree CSC with pe*******on, victim mentally helpless and indecent exposure in front of minors.

Charges say the sexual assault occurred at the Sculpture Garden on Vineland Pl. before 7 p.m. while the female victim was face-down and unconscious under a bridge.

Witnesses told police that multiple children under 16 years old were in the park at the time of the assault. One female was carrying a baby past the Schmit as he was committing the sexual assault. Most of the assault was captured on surveillance video.

On the way to jail, Schmit told police, "So I fooled around with a woman in the grass, big deal."

Schmit remains in custody on $100,000 bail.

Schmit has at least two active cases on charges of assault and disorderly conduct.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said that MPD is investigating a fatal overnight stabbing.

At approximately 12:44AM, 1st Precinct officers responded to the report of a stabbing on the 1000 block of 14 St E. Officers found a man in his 40s with apparent life-threatening injuries. Officers provided lifesaving medical aid, including CPR. The man was transported by EMS to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital, where he died.

Investigators are working to determine the sequence of events that led up to the stabbing.

“Our investigators are working diligently to learn exactly what happened in this case,” said Chief O’Hara. “I am asking anyone with information to please come forward and provide us with what you know. Every piece of information can help an investigation.”

Officers secured the scene and canvassed the area.

Minneapolis Forensic Scientists responded to process the scene.

There have been no arrests.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the man’s name, along with the official cause and manner of death.
