Update: SPLA-IO Sector Four Infentry Division Commander Gen. Thok Chuol Luak released from custody. According to reports, SSPDF spy Mr. Deng Puot ordered Ethiopian security to briefly detain Gen. Thok in his hotel room.
Gen. Thok was in Ethiopia for a medical reason. He has a long history of influence in the South Sudanese military and is a well-respected army general. He is one of the army generals who calls for accountability in South Sudan and opposes ethnic targets and human rights violations.
Uncertainty surrounds the reason for detention. The government of South Sudan is notorious for using foreign security bribes to suppress its political rivals. However, Ethiopia government is often against anyone who tries to detain foreign opposition in their country.
A source in Gambela claims that Mr. Deng Puot, a suspected briber from SSPDF, is reportedly deported this evening from Ethiopia to Pagak, South Sudan.
