BC Ferries has decided to build its ships in China.
Of course, in terms of price and performance, this may have been a much better choice than building them in Canada.
However, what is important is that there is strong opposition from residents of British Columbia, and we need to pay attention to this opposition.
This means that a significant number of British Columbia residents are considering the need to invest in and develop the domestic shipbuilding industry, even if it means spending more money, rather than cutting costs.
Canada is facing upcoming investments in defence capabilities, such as the planned Canadian Navy submarine project, as well as efforts to strengthen the shipbuilding industry supply chain.
This controversy appears to be an issue that has brought to light the public opinion of British Columbia residents at a time when significant costs and efforts will be required to develop the shipbuilding industry.
