Our hearts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and community of Emily Pike (San Carlos Apache).
Thanks to the Yoeme and O’odham communities for working together to organize this walk to honor and spread awareness of Emily Pikes life and MMIWG. We all first gathered at the Pascua Yaqui Tribe admin building and made the trek to Wak Ceksan (San Xavier) community which was about a 4 mile walk.
It was a meaningful way to continue to spread awareness. The support and advocacy was emotional to see in seeking justice for Emily and many others who are still missing or who have been murdered ❤️‍🩹🕯️ #

Some good news we needed to hear with everything going on in the world. A story I had been following for awhile has finally been accomplished! While watching the live stream I was touched to see the late Danny Lopez wife sharing some loving words in his honor, along with so many others who spoke up in support. Thanks to the youth , Azul Navarrete-Valera who spearheaded this change with the support of community members who voiced their support in changing the name of Christopher Columbus park to the Danny Lopez Park. Before voting, several Tucson City Council members shared their supportive and inspiring words about Danny (baht) as well. Tucson City Council unanimously voted 7-0 to rename the Christopher Columbus park to the Danny Lopez Park, located at 4300 N. Silverbell Rd.

I’m currently working on an episode that will talk about the Gu-Achi Fiddlers. This violin was recently passed down to the new generation of Vavages family member. It was owned and played by the late Lester Vavages (baht), an original member of the Gu-Achi Fiddlers. The episode will feature the last living Gu-Achi fiddler band member Gerald Leos who played the snare drum. I’m also going to interview Peter McKracken who originally invited the Gu-Achi Fiddlers to perform at the Fiddle Tunes Festival in Port Townsend, WA back in 1993. If there is someone you think I should talk to in regards to this topic please send a DM with more info.
