Our baby oil posts have gained some serious traction recently- and with that has come a lot of mixed opinions. So we are going to have to go into much deeper detail about the use of baby oil and why any products containing oils e.g baby oil, tea tree oil etc are NOT suitable for your horses sheath.

We are not saying that these oils don’t clean your horses sheath well - they actually work really well, the problem is they work too well.
They strip everything out of your horses sheath, not just the grime, the dirt, the grease and all that crusty build up but they also strip your horses sheath of all that healthy bacteria that they so rely on.

Your horses sheath so badly needs flora. Flora refers to that natural, healthy bacteria that helps your horse maintain a healthy PH level in their sheath. If you use these harsh oils and cleaners, it will strip your horse of this flora. This could lead to not only infection but it will cause your horse to create build up much, much quicker - and before you know it, you are cleaning it weekly and can’t work out why it is forever dirty.

Once or twice a year, except in certain cases, is more than enough and even then, water and water based lubricants are the only appropriate methods. Even over cleaning with water can have a dehydrating effect on your horses sheath.

If your horse is not covering, they do need human intervention - and to those who say sheath cleaning is not natural, if that’s your argument, then neither is gelding them and not allowing them to live in their natural habitat covering mares. This problem was created by humans, so needs maintaining via human intervention, but take it too far and you will do your horse more harm than good.

Stop over cleaning, you may not see the impact it has, but people who do this for a living do.

And for goodness sake stop recommending Dawn dish soap, you wouldn’t wash your own privates with it, so don’t use it on your horses private parts.

Donated goods are immensely valuable to us - generating enough money each year to run our charity for more than a month! 🙌🙌🙌

Some peeps are so generous - and for that we are extremely grateful. ☺️

We are due to set a date for our Autumn Tack & Rug Sale and would welcome any items that we can use, sell, recycle or upcycle.

Please email us at: [email protected]

Here’s a wee list of the kind of things that are always welcome - and one or two that are not! 😆

WE 👏 ARE 👏 BACK 🥳🥳🥳

After what feels like forever, a MILLION emails to meta! A hope, a wish and a prayer and after been hacked we have actually managed against all the odds to get our page back!

That's why you haven't heard from us lately, some utter b***stwards stole our page, no idea how and meta are beyond unhelpful but we are back.
Thankfully our website was unaffected www.thehappyhorsehub.com

We have a huge favour to ask though, please please please if you see this status or any of our posts can you comment or give it a like. We've lost all of our reach and following that we spent so so many hours building up and are now starting from scratch to get back out there into the world of facebook. It's a long hard slog on top of running our small business, website and looking after our clients and horse owners so we appreciate any love you can give us on this post and future ones. Tag your horse loving friends, give our page a share, anything helps no matter how small and we so appreciate it 🥰😘

THANK YOU SO MUCH and we won't be beaten or give up 💚💚

Gelding owners. Did you know you should get your horse checked for this? In fact mare owners too should be aware of this 💚

🐎Trigger warning 🐎
The horse that this bean belonged to, was due to be PTS. The owner had heard of beans but was told my a number of people to ‘leave well alone’ and ‘don’t be like these silly women, obsessed with cleaning horses willies’.

This horses behavioural issues had become so horrendous and every check had been done and nothing could be found. The owner of this horse absolutely thought she was doing the kind thing for a miserable horse, that barely wanted to walk without a rider on, no chance anyone could get on him anymore. He was sad and unhappy and you could see it in his face.
Thankfully her friend was having us out the next week and told her, what has she got to lose but a few quid.

We felt this bean immediately, and the horse knew exactly what we were trying to do. Within less than a minute, this bean was out and you could see an immediate change in the horse. So much so it brought a tear to our eyes.

You can laugh, you can think us sheath cleaners are silly, but at least get your horse checked for beans if you never have. In this case it was literally life or death.

Horse is now very happy and back to his old self 🤍

And before anyone says anything about being a bad horse owner, please understand that some people are made to feel utterly stupid by others for believing that beans are real. Because surprisingly some think they are a myth 😂

🌿🌟 Breed Spotlight: The Thoroughbred 🌟

If you’ve ever admired the grace of a racehorse or the versatility of an equestrian partner, you’ve likely encountered the Thoroughbred! Known for their speed, stamina, and intelligence, these elegant horses are a favourite in a variety of disciplines.

🧬 Breed Origins
The Thoroughbred dates back to the late 17th century in England, where breeders crossed native mares with three foundation stallions of Arabian descent: the Darley Arabian, Godolphin Arabian, and Byerly Turk. The result? A breed celebrated for its athleticism and heart.

🏇 Key Characteristics
• Height: 15.2 to 17 hands (although they can be smaller or bigger these days)
• Colour: Most commonly bay, chestnut, or grey, though other colours exist.
• Temperament: Energetic, intelligent, and willing to please.
• Build: Slim, with long legs and a deep chest built for endurance and speed.

💖 What Makes Them Special?
Thoroughbreds excel beyond the racetrack! Their versatility shines in eventing, show jumping, dressage, and even as beloved leisure horses. They’re quick learners with boundless energy, making them ideal partners for experienced riders.

🌟 Fun Fact
The Thoroughbred is the fastest breed in the world, capable of reaching speeds up to 44 mph!

Does anyone know which famous and beautiful racehorse this is in the photo?

Do you own a Thoroughbred?

We'd love to see a pic and hear about what you do with yours 💚
