🚀 Houston, we've got a movement on our hands.

🖤 Black Cinema Club HTX is proving you don't have to leave Texas to build a film career. Founded by Jerry Madison Jr., Leroy Cook, Shameika Smith, and Arnaud Ndihokubwayo, BCCHTX has grown from screenings and mixers into something bigger: a film academy that hands Houston filmmakers direct funding, mentorship, and a real community — no relocation required.

🎥 Their inaugural 2026 class of five received $2,000 grants and hands-on support to bring their short films to life, all shot right here in H-Town. And the industry's taking notice — with studios reportedly eyeing Houston's homegrown talent pipeline.

✨ This is exactly the kind of grassroots infrastructure-building that makes Texas media production special. Proud to see it happening in our own backyard.

🤠 We've claimed them as something closer to mascots — icons of the independent, larger-than-life spirit Texans admire most.

The stars of the new Apple TV comedy ‘Brothers,’ filmed around Austin, have become our de facto ambassadors, even though their wild-and-free lifestyles seem at odds with a conservative Texas.

🫶 Texas roots, Marvel role.

😎 Corpus Christi's own Inde Navarrette has been cast as Rogue in Marvel Studios' upcoming X-Men film — and she's crediting her South Texas roots for helping her bring authenticity to the role.

💜 "Corpus Christi is the city," Navarrette said, citing the Southern women in her life as inspiration for the character.

⭐ From South Texas to the Marvel Universe — we love to see it.

Inde Navarrette may be best known for her role in Obsession, but she's now preparing for a new challenge and says the women of Corpus Christi are helping inspire her performance.

🎞️ Grassroots filmmaking at its finest: Austin's Film Strip Club, hosted monthly at the Howson Branch Library, lets members hand-draw, paint, and scratch directly onto 16mm film to create new animated art — no experience necessary.

🎥 Run in partnership with the Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI), the free program has grown from its October 2024 launch to drawing 60+ patrons at its August meetup, with some members going on to intern at TAMI itself.

✨ It's a great reminder that keeping analog filmmaking traditions alive doesn't require a big budget — just curiosity, community, and a library card.

Film Strip Club — a once-a-month, free club at the Howson library — gives members a space to try direct animation with no barrier to entry.

📣 Congratulations to the City of Fate on becoming the sixth Digital Media Friendly Texas Certified Community in the state!

🎮 This designation helps spur animation, VFX, video game, and XR production and jobs right in the local community. And Fate isn't stopping there — with this news, the city now holds the Triple Crown: Film Friendly Texas, Music Friendly Texas, AND Digital Media Friendly Texas certifications.

🎬 25 years later, and Austin's own Richard Linklater is still turning heads. The Guardian just called "Waking Life" — Linklater's genre-bending 2001 indie starring Wiley Wiggins wandering the streets of Austin — a "kaleidoscopic masterpiece."

🖌️ The film's hand-painted look came from Rotoshop, software built by Austin animator Bob Sabiston, who gathered roughly 30 local artists to bring it to life. Two decades later, that same Austin rotoscope tradition carried forward into Linklater's "Apollo 10½: A Space Age Childhood," brought to life by Austin's own Minnow Mountain, a rotoscope animation studio built for exactly this kind of work.
