📰🚨This morning we’ve sent out emails to successful applicants for editorial roles at the paper (Heads and Deputy Editors).

Firstly, a huge congratulations to everyone who has been appointed! We were incredibly impressed by the standard of applications this year, and we’re excited to see what you’ll achieve over the coming year.

To everyone who wasn’t successful this time, we’d like to say a sincere ‘thank you’ for taking the time to apply. The standard was exceptionally high, and there were far more strong applicants than positions available.

The Mancunion is built by its contributors, and we’d absolutely love to see you continue getting involved. Whether you’ve written with us before or are just getting started, there will be plenty of opportunities to pitch ideas, write articles, cover events, and become part of our community throughout the year.

If you’d like to get involved, keep an eye on our social media and your inbox for details of our welcome meetings and contributor opportunities at the start of term.

As a final shoutout, we’re opening up applications for additional roles on the team for 26/27.

These include sub-editor, design team, social media manager and inclusions officer, with opportunities to lead on design and sub-editing. A full description of all roles is in the post.

Meet The Mancunion’s Managing Editor team for 2026/27!

We’ve got lots in store: changes to digital strategy, distribution, and editing processes, with a focus on holding power to account and championing journalism with flair and integrity.

This year, as every year, everything we do is aimed at making the paper an inclusive space for writers, editors, and creatives. We want to build a community where contributors feel safe and appreciated, and readers feel represented; seen and heard. Crucially, we want for The Mancunion to be an accessible place for anyone to start writing and creating, regardless of experience.

With section editors announced soon, we can’t wait to get underway on our Welcome Week print edition!

Come meet us at the Fresher’s Fair and section meetings when the new academic year starts!🐝

As Andy Burnham’s first week in as Prime Minister comes to a close, revisit The Mancunion’s interview with the former Mayor of Greater Manchester online now.

At the 2024 Greater Manchester Green Summit and at an episode of Question Time, The Mancunion asked Burnham about net zero, whether student life in Manchester was affordable, and about student rent hikes.

We are re-opening up our elections with advised dates! If you have already submitted an application please resubmit (or email the mancunion email to let us know).

The new dates are:
Applications close - 4th May
Candidates release - 5th May
Voting closes - 12th May
Winners announced - 13th May

These positions allow your to lead and have substantial impact on the biggest student newspaper in the UK and are excellent for your CVs
