It's time to reveal our selections from this year's Summer Photo Challenge!

We've been privileged to receive submissions from our subscribers and followers from different parts of the world, and we wanted to share our favourite shots. Note: these will be featured in no particular order.

Here's one of our choices for 2025 (which nicely coincides with the topic of our latest issue 87!):

This humming bird was captured by one of subscribers - Marvin Thomas - in Shelby, Illinois, USA as part of an art show. The photographer was 6 or 7 meters away from the bird using the 35mm equivalent focal length of 900mm. The flower is a Major Wheeler Honeysuckle and the white background is an out-of-focus white gravel lane. We love this photo for it's artistic ambience and aesthetics.

Famous Nikon Users

On the photo: Sidney Poitier (1927 - 2022) a Bahamian-American actor, film director, activist, and diplomat. He's best known for roles in such films as Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, In the Heat of the Night, and Lillies of the Field. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the latter one and broke the color barrier in the U.S by becoming the first African American actor to win such an award. He also reshaped roles for African Americans by refusing roles which were founded on racial stereotypes.

This photo of Sidney captured holding Nikon F appeared in Nikon Owner Magazine issue 87 and is part of the article titled: Famous Nikon Users, by Gray Levett.

Love it!
Remembering the late Linda McCartney.
Pictured here with her Nikon F captured by Eric Clapton in 1967.

Remembering the late Linda McCartney, (née Eastman) photographer and musician - who was born on this day, September the 24th, in 1941.

Linda was the first female photographer to have a photograph published as the cover of the influential music magazine Rolling Stone.

Pictured here with her Nikon F in an image taken by Eric Clapton in 1967.

You can read more about Linda's photography and see samples of her work in the link that I'll add in the comments section. ........

Nikon Owner Evening Webinar: ‘10 Years of Remembering Wildlife by Margot Raggett Photography MBE

Date: FRIDAY, 17th OCTOBER 2025
Start time: 7.00 pm BST
Duration: 2 hours

Host: Michael Eleftheriades

In what has become an annual feature for Nikon Owner subscribers, we are delighted to welcome Margot, who will be discussing the latest book in the series, ‘10 Years of Remembering Wildlife’. The book will feature some of the best images from previous books, new images selected via a competition, and a section on the world's most trafficked animal, the pangolin.
Margot’s acclaimed previous talks were on ‘Remembering Rhinos & Elephants’ (2017), ‘Remembering Great Apes’ (2018), ‘A Lifelong Passion For Wildlife’ (2019), ‘Remembering Cheetahs’ (2020), ‘Remembering African Wild Dogs’ (2021), ‘Seven Years of Remembering Wildlife’ (2022), ‘Remembering Leopards’ and Remembering Tigers (2024).

In the last decade Margot Raggett MBE has travelled across the world to learn even more, from the high Himalayas photographing snow leopards, to Kodiak Island in search of brown bears; from the Kalahari seeking the elusive pangolin, to Brazil in search of jaguars. In this talk, she will share personal images from her travels and from the collaborative books she has produced, as well as her learnings and observations about conservation across the globe. At a time when USAID cuts, climate change, population explosion and a poaching crisis are devastating the natural world, she tells us why all hope is not lost, and why we simply must not give up.

You can find more about Margot here: www.margotraggettphotography.com

This beautiful image of a leopard was captured by a professional wildlife photographer, , and appeared in Nikon Owner issue 51 as part of an article written by him: “INFINITE POTENTIAL – Photography Changed My Life. Now Life Is Changing My Photography”

In it, Chris Weston writes: “It’s not the camera, it’s the photographer”.
His photographic essay explains that the creation of a great photograph is not necessarily dependent on having the latest or most expensive gear but on having a keen eye, an open and inquisitive mind and the artistic skills to turn vision into reality.
