Chase Answers

Chase Answers Our group is a loving and compassionate group of parents, grandparents, family and friends of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

We get together for informational and social events, sometimes with our children and sometimes without. Going through this journey of Autism is not always easy and we have been lucky to find each other as local support (Chase Answers). We have also connected with the national organization, The Thinking Moms' Revolution, and their non-profit Team TMR to host fundraisers and events in the New Orleans area.

In this compelling episode of Think Inclusive, host Tim Villegas engages in an enlightening conversation with Elizabeth Bonker, a prominent advocate for nonspeaking individuals. Elizabeth shares her inspiring journey of becoming a voice for nonspeakers through typing. Despite the communication barriers she faced, Elizabeth emerged as a powerful force in advocating for inclusivity in education and society.

Elizabeth discusses the challenges nonspeaking students encounter in schools, particularly the prevalent resistance to recognize typing as a legitimate communication method. She compares typing to Braille for the Blind or sign language for the Deaf, advocating for its integration into educational settings as a civil rights issue. The episode delves into Elizabeth’s personal experiences, emphasizing the significant impact of presuming competence. She underscores the necessity of educational reform to facilitate access to typing for non-speakers, advocating for a shift in perception that acknowledges their potential.

“Restraints dropped 97 % in one year—without new staff or pricey tech. The change started with how adults stood in front of kids.”

Key takeaways:
1️⃣ Stance of Safety – chin-tilt right, head-tilt left, thumbs visible: posture that tells a child “you’re safe.”
2️⃣ Shrink the space – hoodies, under-desk “caves,” and knee-to-knee proximity calm the limbic system faster than any hold.
3️⃣ Spot the five subtle “I’m unsafe” cues long before behaviour escalates.
4️⃣ A 12-minute screen-time rule + oxytocin touch turns “get off the game” from battle to smooth transition.
5️⃣ Parents run a one-minute smell-and-touch reset on themselves first—then invite the child in.

Do you talk to your kids in their sleep about how awesome they are? What if a few loving words at bedtime could change your child’s emotional world?

In our latest podcast episode, we explore with Kerre Burley, the power of unconditional love, subconscious messaging during sleep, and how the SleepTalk® method helps children feel secure, calm, and deeply connected—especially when they struggle during the day.

We also look at how the brain responds to emotional safety, what it means to build deep interconnection at a subconscious level, and why tools like this are not just for kids—but for healing the parent-child bond itself.

A groundbreaking review by Steven K. Kapp & Juliette Gudknecht challenges deficit-based views of autistic people with speech divergence (A-SD) — those who speak later, minimally, or not at all.

🔍 Key insights:
- Many A-SD individuals have exceptional visual and auditory processing strengths that shape how they learn, communicate, and experience the world.
- These abilities are often overlooked in traditional assessments, leading to underestimated intelligence.
- Instead of trying to “fix” speech, the authors call for strength-informed, neurodiversity-affirming supports that build on where autistic people already excel - including communication in all forms.
