A review of the Cosmic Kangaroos' new album. Thank you, Shindig! Magazine... the latest!, thank you Richard!
Germany’s Cosmic Kangaroos may have only made four albums since 1986, but the trio of Mecky (guitar, vocals, bass) Kermit (guitar keyboards, bass) and Groucho (drums) are still committed to the cause. The band’s mix of US influenced ‘60s Garage and West Coast rock harks back to loose German rock of the 1970s – think of a garage rock version of Amon Düül or Guru Guru. ‘(I don’t trust the) Writing on the Wall)’ is the longest cut with some fuzz guitar and franticly anguished vocals, ‘Everyday Sleepwalk’ has some Dylanesque folk rock vibes whilst ‘Shortest Way Out’ starts off with a pulsing keyboard punk vibe before breaking down into a trippy psychedelic guitar solo. It is the kind of album that, had it been released as a private pressing in Germany in 1972, would now be worth a fortune. Great fun.
