Since 2021, the town has been in a tug-of-war with Andrea and Allen Lavalette about how much wood the couple is cutting into cords for firewood on their Beaver Pond Road property.

The town of Hinesburg is involved in two opposing lawsuits over a longstanding disagreement about woodcutting on a residential property in the town’s rural district.

For the past few years, Hinesburg has been hoping to draw more hunters like Hubinger to the Town Forest during deer season. This year, once again, the forest committee opted to close a large swath of the recreation trails in the Town Forest and the LaPlatte Headwaters Town Forest to all recreation except hunting from Oct. 25-Dec. 14.

Andrew Hubinger loves the solitude of the woods, passing the time in quiet reflection. Or at least, it’s quiet for a while. When a deer comes into view, there’s a

From the Senate:
"My car breaking down wasn’t a setback after all — it was a reminder. We live among good people doing good deeds, often unseen, every single day. And more than our cars, that’s what keeps our communities — and our hearts — running."

When my car broke down recently, I could not have known it was meant to be.

Carrie Johnson officially accepted an offer from the selectboard Monday morning. She will hold the position until at least March, but Bareham explained that a clause within the employment contract does allow the town to extend the contract by mutual agreement.

Charlotte has hired an interim town administrator to take over for Nate Bareham, who has held the post since 2023.

The two proposed bonds would cover final installation of a new well for the town’s water system and repairs to three bridges: two near the town garage on Beecher Hill Road that were wiped out during flooding in July 2024 and another bridge on Hollow Road that has been slated for repairs for two years.

Hinesburg has warned votes for two bonds totaling $3.1 million. Voters will decide the spending measures on Nov. 4.

“High schools have so much equipment, and before 2000 when I started this, at three o’clock, the building went dark, just like most,” Eddie Krasnow, who launched the program, said. “My goal was, if I can fill the parking lots between five and nine o’clock at night, I’ve arrived.”

We might grow up and leave school, but that doesn’t mean we stop wanting to learn new things. As human beings, we’re curious, we love gaining news skills and learning

Seventy-five years later, the department has more than 30 members and, last year, responded to nearly 700 fire and rescue calls. And last week, over a hundred neighbors and community members gathered at the station to celebrate the department’s success.

The year was 1950 and the town of Charlotte had just formed a volunteer fire department, thanks to the donation of a 1942 Pirsch Pumper from Harry Webb, the son

Over time, Hinesburg has become a bit of a destination for bicyclists. Just this year, the selectboard approved at least three different bike rides — fundraisers and community events — that came through town. While some are gravel rides rather than mountain biking, the 17 miles of trails in the town forest have been a continual draw and often intersect with popular gravel or access roads like Texas Hill Road.

Take a walk in the Hinesburg Town Forest, and you might cross paths with a biker expertly navigating their knobby, treaded tires down a trail.
