"Can this help me sell my book?"

Short answer: yes ✅
Longer answer: books don’t make money ❌

I was talking with a pastor today.
Brilliant guy.

He told me he turned his dissertation into a book.

I asked a simple question...
“How long did that take?”

"Four years."

Now, I’m sure the book is incredible... but here’s the problem.

If your goal is to earn an extra five to six figures per year, a book is the wrong medium.

Most authors already know this truth.
❌ You often lose money
❌ Or barely break even
❌ Especially when you factor in time

Let’s do the math 💰
❌ A book sells for $10–$20
❌ After printing costs and publisher cuts
❌ You’re lucky to keep $2–$3 per copy

That means to make $100,000 from a book… you need to sell between 30,000-50,000 copies!!!

Now compare that to what I suggested instead.

I asked him another question.

“If someone invited you to speak on the same topic as your book…

How long would it take you to create 4–5 keynote talks with slides and handouts?”

His answer?

Four days.

Four days… versus four years ⏱️

Now ask yourself this.
🤔 Would people pay more for a book?
🤔 Or a structured video course on the same subject?

And here’s the kicker🎯

With a digital course:
✅ No printing costs
✅ No publisher cut
✅ No inventory
✅ 100% margin

So let’s recap...

A video course is:
✅ Faster to create
✅ Higher perceived value
✅ Higher profit margin

And this isn’t theoretical 📈

One of my students, Daniel, launched his first course with just a few weeks of preparation.

No book deal.
No four-year writing process.

Within six months, that course generated $100,000 in profit.

That’s why I don’t recommend a book as the first way to turn your expertise into a product.

Books build authority.
Courses build income.

Different tools.
Different outcomes.

“How fast can I actually make money?”

Short answer… it depends.

Not on God’s favor.
Not on the algorithm.
Not on how long you’ve been in ministry.

It depends on you.

Here’s what I’ve seen firsthand:

1 week: Marcos generated $4,000
30 days: Richard generated $17,000
6 months: Daniel generated $100,000

Same coaching.
Same frameworks.
Different timelines.

Why?

Because most people don’t struggle with strategy.
They struggle with action.

Here's what halts most people...
👎🏼 Imposter syndrome
👎🏼 Paralysis by analysis
👎🏼 Waiting until everything feels “ready”

The students who win faster are not special.
They’re just willing to:

👍🏼 Move before they feel confident
👍🏼 Risk being imperfect
👍🏼 Trust the process long enough to build momentum

So when someone asks me, “How long will this take?”
I usually ask it back:

How ready are you to take action?

If the answer is “not yet,” this probably isn’t your season (and that's fine too)

But if you’re ready to bet on yourself…
And you just need clarity, structure, and guidance…

That’s exactly who this workshop is for.

Here’s something most pastors completely miss when they think about coaching.

You’re already doing it.

Every sermon you preach… every Bible study you lead… follows the exact same framework great coaches use.

Think about the flow of a typical message:

1. You name the problem.
You surface what people are struggling with.
Where they’re stuck.
What isn’t working.

2. You offer a promise.
You cast a vision of what life could look like.
A picture of freedom, clarity, or transformation.

3. You outline a process.
You give steps.
You give direction.
You show people what to do next to experience change.

4. You extend an invitation.
You call them into action.
You ask them to step toward the transformation available to them.

Problem…Promise…Process…Invitation…

That’s a sermon.

But it’s also the skeleton of every effective coaching program on the planet.

This is why pastors make such powerful coaches.

Because the very thing coaching requires… is the thing you already do without thinking.

“How do I choose my coaching niche?”

Simple.

What private prayer requests do people come to you with?

Richard learned this before he ever launched his first coaching program.

After Bible studies… through late–night texts… in DMs… and quiet phone calls… men would reach out and say:

“Can you pray for me? I’m struggling with lust… and I don’t know who to talk to.”

Those weren’t casual prayer requests... they were men saying:

“I’m stuck. I’m ashamed. And I need real help.”

Richard didn’t know it at the time…
but those whispered requests were his coaching niche.

So when he finally created his coaching program... 17 guys jumped at the opportunity!

If people already trust you with the part of their life they won’t say out loud… you don’t need to choose your niche.

It’s choosing you.

Aubrey made $3,500 in his first three weeks of the Tentmaking Accelerator… with only 1,400 followers.

Before joining?

He spent six straight months making $0.
Six months of trying to grow an online ministry.
Six months of knowing God was calling him online… but never fully committing.

Then he started week one of the Accelerator.

He got clarity.
He finally knew what to say.
And he finally stopped overthinking every post.

Ten posts.
Three new students.
$3,500 in revenue in three weeks.

But here’s the line he said that stopped me:

“I stopped waiting for the perfect plan and started giving God something to work with.”

That was the shift.
Not a tactic.
Not a hack.
A decision.

And once he took that step, God showed up POWERFULLY

He isn’t the only one seeing quick movement either…

• Marcos made $4,000 in 7 days
• Eliana made $10,000 in 45 days
• Richard made $17,000 in 30 days
• Daniel made $100,000 in 6 months while pastoring two churches

Different ministries.
Same breakthrough:
Say yes.
Take action.
Let God multiply it.

If you’re called to online ministry and want clarity on how to actually start, check out the tentmaking workshop to get the same tactics Aubrey used!

How tentmaking actually works might surprise you.

People assume it’s some massive weekly grind with complex funnels and endless content... but here’s literally everything I do each week.

1️⃣ - I write one email per week.

It takes 5 to 10 minutes. I share a quick story, or an insight that has solved a problem my reader also deals with. Nothing too crazy... maybe 300 - 500 words.

2️⃣ - I post on social media once per week.

This takes about 25 minutes. Sometimes it's a short 3-5 minute video... other times a "micro blog" (like this post!). The idea is to answer a FAQ, help break a limiting belief, or teach someone how to do something they want to learn how to do!

(Real meta point: the goal of this micro blog is to show you how LITTLE is needed to be a "tentmaker" in the hopes that you stop overthinking and finally get started!!!)

3️⃣ - I prep my class once per week.

Since I'm teaching stuff that I'm good at... this takes 1 to 2 hours max. Creatively, this is super easy. I literally create a basic keynote + a simple text based handout.

4️⃣ - I teach class once per week.

The format is simple. 20-30 minutes of "teaching..." and then I'm hanging out with some of the coolest people I know! I answer questions, give feedback and celebrate my students breakthroughs. Seriously, a highlight of my week!

5️⃣ - I learn something new each week.

This is where I spend the most time each week (and I love it!). My job is to stay informed and useful... and so, each week, I read books, listen to podcasts, watch Youtube videos and talk game with others who I can glean from.

(P.S. - if you're a pastor, you're going to love this part of the "job." Imagine having a justifiable reason to getting super nerdy on your niche area of interest... because your students are also super interested in it!!!)
..and that's basically it.
That's the whole business.

⁉️ People always ask, "That's it? What do you do with the rest of your time?"

Honestly? Life stuff... the good stuff!

Weekly daddy dates with my son to In-N-Out, building legos on the living room floor and watching him step out of his comfort zone at jiujitsu class!!!

👌🏽 That margin is one of the biggest perks of tentmaking.

Occasionally I have to respond to emails or DM's... maybe 15-30 minutes on a busy day... but this is the core of what it takes to keep things moving forward week after week.

And if I want to REALLY work hard (and accelerate my business growth)... I might write TWO emails or posts per week.

Now, here's the funny part...

If you're reading this thinking, "Wait... I already do most of that every week too!!!"... yeah. Exactly.
.. that's MY point.

💥 Most ministry leaders already write, teach, answer questions, and help people grow.

Tentmaking just turns what you're already doing into something more sustainable... something that provides for your family.

If you want to see how all the peices fit together and how my students are earning an additional 5-6 figures per year doing exactly what I just wrote...

I put together a workshop that breaks the whole thing down.

You'd be surprised at how simple it really is.

"How much can you make with under 1,000 followers?"

Short answer... it depends.
Long answer... it depends on your strategy.

If your strategy is "grow grow grow" and hope that money magically shows up, sponsors slide in your DMs, and YouTube suddenly decides to pay your bills... you might be disappointed.

At least I was.

I had over 100k subscribers on YouTube... I was preaching around the world... I was reaching millions of people.
..And I was still broke.

Even after creating thousands of videos, I was struggling to clear a few hundred dollars per month. Ministry impact was high... but margin was nonexistent. My wife was carrying our family financially, and I was carrying the quiet shame that comes with it.

What I learned the hard way is this: audience size does not equal income. Strategy does.

And here’s the part no one tells pastors:

Small creators... the ones with under 1,000 followers... are quietly earning 5 to 6 figures per year in bonus income.

Not with websites.
Not with complicated funnels.
Not with paid ads.

They’re doing it by taking the expertise they already have as pastors and packaging it into simple, high-value offers people are genuinely grateful to invest in.

A few hours per week.
Real transformation for real people.
And suddenly the financial pressure lifts.

That’s why I created the Tentmaking Workshop.

To save you years of trial and error.
To show you the exact framework I wish I had when I was stuck making pennies on YouTube.
To help you monetize your expertise without needing a massive audience.

If you’re trying to figure out how to generate meaningful income from your ministry gifts and you have under 1,000 followers... this workshop is for you.

"How many followers do I need to make a living online?"

It’s one of the most common questions I get.

Most pastors assume they need a giant audience. A million followers... Viral videos... Endless content.

I get it. But it’s a myth.

When I first started my YouTube ministry, I fell into the same trap.
I poured all my energy into creating videos and growing the channel.

And it worked (kind of)

Within a few years, I passed 100,000 subscribers.
Invitations to preach and teach around the world.

Big platform. Big reach.

From the outside, everything looked amazing.

But behind the scenes... my wife was still paying the bills.

We justified it by saying it was all for the kingdom.
But deep down, we knew it was unsustainable.

When our first son arrived, the self-delusion finally snapped.
I had to figure out how to generate income without compromising my calling.

So I launched my first coaching program and generated $37,000 in two weeks

Here’s the part that surprises most people...

I never even advertised it on my YouTube channel.

I posted once on Facebook.
Once on Instagram. To a combined audience of about 3,000 people.

That’s when it clicked for me:

Having lots of followers helps (sometimes)... but what you really need is:
➡️ The ability to help someone experience transformation
➡️Tech as simple as zoom & a google doc
➡️ And a simple proven strategy to help people say, "yes" to your offer

And just so you know... your follower count isn’t the limiter.

Here’s the proof:
🎓 Eliana made $10k in 45 days with 246 followers
🎓 Daniel made $200k in 12 months with 621 followers
🎓 Richard made $17k in two weeks with 6,000 followers

If you’re curious how to do this for your own ministry...

Check out the tentmaking workshop. You’ll learn the exact steps I used to turn sermons, real life experience, and ministry expertise into a high-value offer people are grateful to invest in.

“Here we go... another pastor trying to get rich off Jesus.”

I get it.
The optics matter.
We’re all hyper sensitive to religious figures who look like they’re taking advantage of sincere Christians.

And to be clear, I would join you in unequivocally condemning that.
No hesitation.

But that is not what tentmaking is about.

What I’m helping pastors do is basically a more effective version of writing a book.

Here’s what I mean.

Most pastors are told to write a book to “extend their ministry,” but the financial reality is brutal:

👎🏼The average nonfiction book sells between 250 and 500 copies in its entire lifetime.
👎🏼Eighty percent of authors never earn more than one thousand dollars from their book.
👎🏼Most traditional publishers expect the author to do all the marketing anyway.
👎🏼And after all of that, you’re lucky to take home one to two dollars per sale.

Hard work. Huge effort. Almost no impact. Almost no return.

Now compare that to an online course or a small coaching program built around your pastoral expertise.

👍🏼Courses actually serve people better:
👍🏼They give students structure, accountability, and clarity.
👍🏼They allow you to walk with someone step by step instead of handing them a book and hoping for the best.
👍🏼They create real transformation for people who want deeper help than a Sunday sermon or a chapter in a book can provide.

And yes... they allow pastors to support their families without burning out.

At the end of the day, tentmaking is simply another iteration of what we already accept in the Christian world.

✅Pastors are encouraged to write and sell books.
✅Seminary professors are paid to teach the Bible.
✅Christian counselors charge for their sessions.
✅Missionaries are funded by the church so they can serve full time.

So the blanket criticism against tentmaking is, honestly, a little silly.

Scripture already said it clearly: "the workman is worthy of his hire."

If you want help learning how to do this with integrity and excellence, that is literally why the Tentmaking Workshop exists.

FAQ: “I don’t have a big following. Can I still make money through tentmaking?”

Yup!

Pastors can generate an additional 5-6 figures per year with as few as 246 followers when you follow my system.

Here's three examples:

Daniel joined the program with 621 followers and zero people on his email list.

And yet, using my framework, he quickly generated $100k in 6 months, $200k in 12 months, and even blew up his Instagram to 10k followers AFTER his first successful launch.

And Daniel isn’t the only one.

Eliana had just 246 followers when she launched her first offer.

By following the same system for clarifying her message and structuring her offer, she generated 10k in her first 45 days.!!

Richard was a bi-vocational minister with about 6,000 followers.

He applied my framework step-by-step... took one sermon series... turned it into a coaching offer... and generated 16,625 dollars in 30 days without spending a single penny on ads!
“Can I really do this with a small following?”

Daniel did it with 621.
Eliana did it with 246.
Richard did it with 6,000.

Different backgrounds. Different audiences. Same result.

Now, obviously I should acknowledge the simple truth... having a large audience does make this easier. No sense pretending otherwise.

But here’s the part most pastors miss: A big audience is an accelerator... not a prerequisite.

The Tentmaking Workshop isn’t about chasing followers or building a platform. It’s about teaching you the exact system these students used:
- how to clarify your message
- how to structure your expertise into a high-value offer
- how to use a free, conversation-based launch strategy that works even with tiny audiences

Poverty is not a spiritual virtue.

Yes, Jesus blesses the poor in spirit (Matthew 5:3)

Yes, contentment matters (1 Timothy 6:6).

But somewhere along the way, many believers confused contentment with passivity... as if choosing a life of instability, scarcity, or constant struggle somehow makes us more holy (it doesn't)

Scripture demands that we think differently.

Proverbs 13:22 says, "A good man leaves an inheritance for his children's children, but a sinner's wealth is stored up for the righteous."

What if the impulse to generate wealth wasn't your "base nature"... but given to you by God Himself?

What if the call wasn't to just be faithful with little... but to ALSO be faithful with much?

Paul was content when he had little... AND when he had much (Philippians 4:12)

As a father, I work hard, take risks, and build so that my family can inherit more than my survival story. I want them to inherit margin, opportunity, and a picture of what it looks like to steward God's gifts well.

Not to worship wealth... but to remove unnecessary burdens from their shoulders.

Not to chase status... but to create space for them to say yes to God without the weight of constant financial struggle.

To me, the pursuit of wealth is an act of faithful stewardship that honors the call to leave an inheritance for my children's children.

11/11/2025

Why would a pastor want to monetize their ministry?

Let’s be honest... most pastors already do monetize their ministry.

They simply call it a salary, a stipend, or a housing allowance.

They’re literally paid by a local church to serve and lead that community (and there's nothing wrong with this).

Even the Levites in the Old Testament were provided for by those they served!!!

But here’s a few reasons that pastors are now exploring additional ways to monetize their gifts:

1. The cost of preparation is massive.
A typical Master of Divinity costs anywhere from $30K–$40K+ in tuition alone. Add housing, books, and living expenses, and that number can easily double. Meanwhile, the average full-time pastor in America earns under $50,000 per year.

The result? 70% of pastors report carrying ~$43,000 in non-mortgage debt.

2. Family and financial realities are pressing.
Pastors aren’t immune to everyday expenses. Many want to send their kids to Christian school, pay off student loans, or afford a modest home. And sometimes, unexpected challenges arise. One of my students joined the Tentmaking Accelerator after accumulating multiple five figures of debt from his daughter’s scoliosis diagnosis.

To the keyboard warriors in the comment section... is it wrong for a father to use his God-given skills to provide for his family? Of course not.

3. Expanding impact beyond the pulpit.
Online teaching, writing, and coaching can multiply a pastor’s reach far beyond Sunday morning. By monetizing that teaching, the demand on the local congregation can actually be lessoned or eliminated all together.

Want an example? Look at Rick Warren who has sold 50M+ books worldwide. As a result, he stopped taking a salary from his church, freeing the congregation from that financial burden.

So when someone sneers, “How dare you monetize ministry?”... remember this:

Here's the point...

Unless your are arguing that every professional serving in ministry should be unpaid, your criticism is self-defeating.

Because if you believe pastors should never receive compensation, you’d also have to argue that ALL pastors, missionaries, worship leaders, church secretaries, Christian teachers, and church staff should all serve without provision too—which isn’t sustainable or biblical.

If you're a pastor or ministry theres a different question.

Am I stewarding my calling and my skill set responsibly?

If you want to learn what how to turn your best sermon series into an online course that earns an additional 5-6 figures per year, let me know. I have a free course I'd love to send you!
