Best of luck to the Spearfishing New Zealand team who are competing at the CMAS World Spearfishing champs off the coast of Sao Francisco do Sul.
Supported by Beuchat NZ and South Seas Spearo, the team are giving it their all in some seriously challenging conditions, which are different to anything Dwane Herbert, Kieran and Chris are used to - day one saw 80-plus boats fighting for good spots in a very small area, to do five hours of diving in just 2-3m visibility.
Team captain Dwane's caught four fish, Kieran three, and Chris two - a good start. That's put Dwane in sixth place at the end of day one.
Stay tuned for more updates - and best of luck to the team!
Good luck to these legends Dwane, Kieran and Chris representing NZ at the Spearfishing world cup!
The CMAS World Spearfishing Championships, is launching off the coast of São Francisco do Sul tomorrow morning, local time. We look forward to hearing an update on how they're getting on. South Seas Spearo will be providing live updates.
The competition area is tiny—remarkably smaller than what we'd typically use for a New Zealand Nationals, which is already a swim-based comp. With only 2-3 meters of visibility, tomorrow will see around 80 boats crammed together, all racing and jostling for the best positions over five grueling hours of diving.
