For over 13 years I’ve been advocating for Mobile Journalism, always telling students you never know when a story will land on your lap and you have to know how to leverage your smartphone when that happens. Little did I know I’d personally experience this but that’s what happened last week while I was in Doha delivering training. You all know the story by now…Isreal bombed a residence in the city suburbs which was host to the Hamas negotiating team (at the behest of the U.S. ai might add).
Anyway I was teaching mobile journalism so had my full kit with me and that kit, based on the Khronos system and iPhone 16ProMax ended up going live on CNN for 5 hours while waiting for an ENG Crew to arrive. I used a temporary e-Sim from to bond with the WiFi from the hotel for maximum connectivity.
I still cannot understand why, in a time when news avoidance is on the rise, AI is flooding feeds with slop and newsrooms are contracting due to lack of funding there are so few organisations leveraging mobile at scale to cover news. 🤷🏼
