SYNOPSIS

A magic lamp containing an evil Djinni embarks upon an incredible journey as it passes from the Stone Age to the Modern World. The malevolent Djinni fulfills the wishes of those who gain possession of his lamp, only those wishes do not always come out exactly as planned. Tragedy fills ALADDIN'S CURSE, as little to no good comes to those who wish for personal gain from the ancient magic. Only three unselfish wishes can rid the world of this wicked force. Follow the series of subplots and short stories through time as the lamp and the evil spirit within all uniquely interconnect them.

The dark side of human nature is only a wish away. As the old saying goes: “Be careful what you wish for; you just might get it!”

Nightmare Press has grown so much since we reopened last year. We’ve added several titles and have many more to add. Thank you to everyone who has trusted us with their work.

We still get a lot of submissions—which is great. Unfortunately, this means I’ll have to be even more selective than I was previously. With our roster and library filling up, and me being just one man, I’ll have to make tough decisions during the submissions process.

I’ve already had to decline manuscripts that were very good simply because I can only take on so much. I got hammered during that submissions call last year (I don’t mean I got drunk 😂). I get so many manuscripts that are publication worthy that I have to decline.

The criteria has to shift now beyond just being quality work. Now, it has to be different from what we already have either published or awaiting publication. I have to reserve spots for current authors. This is going to lead to difficult rejections that I’m not going to want to make, but I don’t think authors will want to wait a couple years for their books to be published. I already found myself in that situation when people who were supposed to help me bailed, and I don’t want to put anymore authors through that waiting period.

I look forward to our future. My coming focus is going to have to be on promotion and publishing the work already signed. So, my acceptance rate will unfortunately have to drop. I wish I could publish every quality manuscript, but I realistically cannot.

SYNOPSIS

Set in London in the summer of 1969, THE HURDY GURDY MAN follows Kath Dunn, who has left her home near the seaside town Berwick on Tweed, and finds herself homeless on the streets of Piccadilly. Here she encounters the eccentric Gordon Urquhart-Scott, who persuades Kath to accompany him to his large crumbling home on the edge of Hampstead Heath, where he claims to run a hostel for homeless women.

Kath finds herself inducted as one of twelve formerly homeless women who reside free of charge in the house in exchange for obeying the Hurdy Gurdy Man’s strange rules, including nightly musical performances on the hand cranked hurdy-gurdy from which his nickname derives.

Kath befriends Ruth. Together they secretly unravel terrible truths linked to the British Class system, the establishment, and the gruesome Scottish borders legends of the Redcaps. After witnessing how deep the horror within the decaying home truly runs, the two women decide to confront the evil at its source. Enlisting the help of other women, they engineer a terrifying conflict they hope will send the evil back to whatever foul region of darkness from whence it came.
