🚨 The moment you step out of your car to confront another driver, things can only go downhill from there.

A recent viral road rage incident in Cavite between a Ford Everest driver and a public utility bus (PUB) has proven just that.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has officially issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) and Subpoena to the parties involved.

Key updates from LTO Chief Markus V. Lacanilao:

• 90-Day Suspension: The SUV driver’s license is under preventive suspension for 90 days and must be surrendered immediately.

• Vehicle "Alarm": The Ford Everest is now flagged in the LTO system, blocking any transactions or registration renewals for the vehicle.

• The Violations: The driver is facing possible "Reckless Driving" and being declared an "Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle."

• The Deadline: Both the SUV owner/driver and the bus owner/driver are ordered to appear at the LTO-IID in Quezon City on January 14, 2026.

Let’s do our best to keep our cool on the road. A few seconds of temper can cost you your privilege to drive. 🚗🚫

🚨 LTO ISSUES SHOW CAUSE ORDER VS. ALLEGED COLORUM VEHICLE 🚨

A driver may have met his match after a passenger took her complaint online, prompting the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to summon the driver over an alleged colorum violation - an offense that carries heavy penalties if proven.

Numerous “door-to-door” transport groups operate online, offering cheaper trips to various provinces and regions. However, a recurring complaint involves passengers being dropped off halfway, or near - but not at their agreed destination.

According to LTO findings, a woman and her child boarded a Toyota Avanza at Goa Terminal, Camarines Sur, bound for North Caloocan. A ₱2,000 fare was agreed upon for direct door-to-door service, inclusive of luggage. Upon reaching Cubao, Quezon City, the driver allegedly demanded additional payment and dropped the passengers there, claiming the destination was not part of the agreement.

LTO verification showed the vehicle is registered as a private vehicle, raising possible violations for colorum operation, overcharging, and refusal to complete the agreed service.

LTO Chief Markus V. Lacanilao emphasized that illegal transport operations, unfair fare practices, and refusal to render service will not be tolerated, urging the public to report similar incidents immediately.

The registered owner and driver were ordered to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) and submit a verified/sworn explanation, with a hearing scheduled on 12 January 2026.

â›” Interim actions:

• The vehicle has been placed under ALARM status

• The driver’s license has been preventively suspended for 90 days and must be surrendered to the LTO

🚨 LTO issues Show Cause Order vs PUJ driver over reckless driving and “step board” passengers

LTO has issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) against the driver of a Public Utility Jeepney (PUJ) after a viral video showed passengers standing on the rear step board while the vehicle was in motion along Marcos Highway, Antipolo City.

According to LTO, the PUJ driver changed lanes recklessly, almost hitting another vehicle and endangering his own passengers.

LTO Chief Markus V. Lacanilao stressed that allowing passengers to stand on the step board or hang on the sides of a public utility vehicle while in motion is strictly prohibited and poses a serious risk to passengers and other road users.

Under the Show Cause Order, the driver is required to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) on January 8, 2026, at the LETAS Building, East Avenue, Quezon City, and submit a sworn explanation on why he should not be held liable for:

• Reckless Driving

• Allowing passengers to ride on the step board

• Being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle

Pending the investigation, the driver’s license has been placed under 90-day preventive suspension, and the jeepney will be placed under ALARM status once identified, temporarily prohibiting transactions involving the vehicle.

LTO warned that failure to appear or submit the required sworn explanation will be considered a waiver of the right to be heard, and the case will be resolved based on available records.

Asec. Lacanilao emphasized that enforcement is not just about penalties but about protecting lives and ensuring road safety, reiterating LTO’s commitment to making sure public utility drivers and operators comply with regulations and prioritize passenger safety.

🚨 LTO to push through with enforcement vs e-trikes on major highways in Metro Manila

After previously announcing - and later postponing the move, LTO says it will now strictly enforce the ban on e-trikes along major highways in Metro Manila starting today, January 2, 2026.

LTO clarified that the ban applies to major highways as defined by the MMDA, with EDSA, C-5, Roxas Boulevard, and Quirino Avenue to Magallanes–SLEX cited as examples.

According to LTO Chief Markus V. Lacanilao, the enforcement efforts are based on road safety considerations, noting that these highways are designed for faster and larger vehicles and are not suitable for slower, light vehicles such as e-trikes, given traffic speed, volume, and road width.

LTO said it understands that many commuters rely on e-trikes for daily transport and stressed that the measure is not a total ban on e-trikes. The agency said it is prepared to work with local government units and industry groups to identify safer and more appropriate routes for e-trikes in the coming days, while awaiting more comprehensive joint guidelines from the DOTr and other agencies.

Motorists found operating e-trikes on prohibited highways may face fines and possible impoundment under Republic Act No. 4136 (Land Transportation and Traffic Code) and Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01.

LTO said it will deploy law enforcers at critical points to inform motorists and ensure proper implementation, and is urging the public to cooperate and comply with traffic regulations in the interest of everyone’s safety.

🚨 BAGUIO CITY ROAD RAGE INCIDENT

ICYMI: The LTO has issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) against the registered owner and driver of a Toyota Fortuner involved in a road rage incident in Baguio City that recently went viral on social media.

According to the SCO, the video shows the Fortuner driver displaying hostile behavior toward a parking attendant, “provoking him to approach and seemingly attempting to draw a weapon from his vehicle.”

🧑‍⚖️ Under the SCO, both the registered owner and the driver are ordered to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) on January 8, 2026, and to submit a verified/sworn explanation as to why the driver should not be held administratively liable for being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.

Pending the investigation, the Toyota Fortuner has been placed under ALARM status, and the driver’s license has been preventively suspended for 90 days, with immediate surrender required.

🪪 LTO Chief Lacanilao stressed that road rage has no place on public roads, reminding motorists that a driver’s license is a privilege, not a right.

🚨 ICYMI: LTO takes action over viral Marikina road rage incident

In case you missed it, LTO has issued Show Cause Orders against the drivers and registered owners of the vehicles involved in the viral road rage incident that occurred on December 24, 2025, at Riverbanks, Marikina City.

The registered owners and drivers of the Ford Ranger pick-up and Toyota Vios have been directed to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (LTO-IID) on January 7, 2026, and to submit verified or sworn explanations.

They are required to explain why they should not be held administratively liable for violations such as Reckless Driving and Obstruction of Traffic, and why the drivers’ licenses should not be suspended or revoked for being considered improper persons to operate a motor vehicle.

LTO also stated that, based on its records, the Ford Ranger was last registered on September 9, 2024, which may make its owner liable for violations related to vehicle registration. Both vehicles have been placed under “ALARM” status, temporarily prohibiting any transactions, while the drivers’ licenses have been placed under preventive suspension for 90 days pending the outcome of the investigation.

⚠️ Unverified statement circulating online

Separately, an unverified statement allegedly from one of the parties involved has been circulating on social media. The statement claims that the incident stemmed from a lane-cutting dispute, that heated words were exchanged, and that all parties later went to a police station, apologized, and settled the matter peacefully.

💡 I checked the back of this Omni emergency light being sold at the mall and noticed it’s using a LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery instead of the usual lead-acid or NiCd.

That’s a meaningful upgrade for something that’s designed to sit idle most of the time and only run during power outages.

Why this matters 👇

🔋 Much longer cycle life - the battery should last years longer before needing replacement

🔌 Lower self-discharge - it holds its charge better while sitting unused

⚖️ More stable lithium chemistry - suitable for always-plugged emergency lights

I did notice that the light gradually dims the longer it runs, which likely explains the 5-hour advertised runtime given a 4.8 Wh battery and 2x2W LED COBs.

Nice to see emergency lights slowly moving away from older battery technologies. 👍

🚨 LTO Issues Show-Cause-Order Over Viral Road Rage Incident Involving Government Vehicle

LTO has reportedly issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) and a 90-day preventive suspension against the driver of a Ford Ranger following a viral road rage incident.

The investigation was triggered by a video posted on Facebook showing the driver acting "aggressively and deliberately throwing a bicycle".

📹 Seen in the video

After throwing the bicycle to the ground and returning to the vehicle, it appears that the driver may have then ran over the back wheel of the bicycle - although this isn't conclusive due to the camera view being partially obstructed.

đźš« Administrative Charges & Hearing

The registered owner and the driver are directed to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) on January 5, 2026, at 3:00 PM. They must submit a sworn explanation as to why they should not be held liable for:

Reckless Driving (Section 48 of R.A. 4136)

Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle (Section 27(a) of R.A. 4136)

🚧 Immediate Disciplinary Actions

While the investigation is ongoing, the LTO has implemented the following:

License Suspension: The driver’s license has been placed under a 90-day preventive suspension and must be surrendered immediately to the LTO-IID.

Vehicle Alarm: The Ford Ranger has been placed under ALARM status.

Asec. Lacanilao warned that failure to appear or submit the required explanation will be considered a waiver of their right to be heard, and the LTO will render a recommendation based on available records.

🚍 QC Main Ave to SM MOA in just 45 minutes?

If you’re heading to IKEA, the EDSA Busway might actually be one of the easiest ways to get there!

🛣️ No driving, no parking problems - perfect for those heavy EDSA traffic days.

And thankfully The EDSA Busway now both LOADS and UNLOADS at SM MOA. Unlike before, when it was unload-only - which made going back north a headache.

đź’ł Cashless payment option

GCash is now integrated with the EDSA Busway. And since it uses QRPh, you’re not locked into one app - you can reportedly pay using Maya, BPI, and other QRPh-compliant apps by scanning the conductor’s device.

⚠️ Of course, travel time may still vary depending on passenger volume, waiting time at stops, and overall traffic conditions.

🚨 License Revoked Following Investigation into Viral Video

"A viral video... showing an unidentified driver of a Toyota Hilux... physically striking a male individual pushing a cart, accompanied by a minor..."

That was the subject of the official Show Cause Order (SCO) issued by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) on December 15, 2025.

Following a formal hearing and investigation into the incident, LTO Chief Markus V. Lacanilao has announced the final resolution:

🪪 License Revocation: The driver’s license has been permanently revoked.

đźš™ Vehicle Alarm: The white Toyota Hilux involved in the incident has been placed under an alarm in the LTO's records.

⚖️ Statement from the LTO Chief:

Asec. Lacanilao emphasized that the agency will not tolerate such behavior, stating that they "will not condone any form of violence (karahasan) and irresponsible behavior on the road". He further noted that the agency's goal is to ensure justice and maintain safety, discipline, and respect for all road users.

🚌 QR Payments on the EDSA Busway

A more convenient way to pay your fare is now being tested on the EDSA Busway. The DOTr launched a cashless payment option today at PITX, starting with GCash.

While not a total overhaul of the system, this update is a welcome convenience for those who want to avoid the hassle of carrying heavy coins or breaking large bills just to pay for a bus ride.

🔹 What You Need to Know:

• Practical Convenience: DOTr Sec. Lopez noted that this provides an additional "hassle-free" option for commuters on the EDSA Busway.

• Exact Fare Only: Payments go directly to the operator's account, helping passengers pay the exact amount without needing to wait for change.

• No Extra Costs: There are no transaction or convenience fees when using this method, and the standard 20% discount for students, PWDs, and seniors remains active.

• Wider Compatibility: Because the system uses QRPh, you aren't limited to just one app. You can reportedly use other QRPh-compliant apps like Maya or BPI to scan the conductor's device.

📲 How it works:

Commuters simply scan the QR code on the conductor’s SoundPay device using their preferred e-wallet or banking app, enter the fare, and pay. The system is currently live on 260 bus units as part of a one-year pilot program.
