On December 11, 2017, I heard words that changed my life: you have multiple myeloma.
Living with blood cancer as a Black woman has been a journey full of strength, setbacks, and resilience—but also one filled with frustration. September is National Blood Cancer Awareness Month, and while campaigns are everywhere, I rarely see data, resources, or representation that looks like me.
Black women are living with this disease too. Our stories matter. Our experiences matter. Our survival matters. It’s time for more research, more conversations, and more visibility for Black women facing multiple myeloma.
Because we are not invisible.
