Thanks to everyone who joined the listening party last night. That was super fun, and we appreciated all the very kind words about the music. OUT NOW! Tomas Fujiwara - Dream Up (OOYH 036), featuring his new percussion quartet of Tim Keiper, Kaoru Watanabe, and Patricia Brennan, is now available for purchase on Bandcamp and streaming everywhere. CDs are in stock and shipping, featuring beautiful art + design by TJ Huff, mixed and mastered (and sounding so good) by Nick Lloyd. We promise you haven't heard anything like Dream Up this year! If you like Max Roach's M'Boom, Bobby Hutcherson's many contributions to the classic avant Blue Note records of the 60s, or Tomas' own albums and collaborations with Mary Halvorson and Tomeka Reid, you are going to love this! And you are sure to hear the influence of Tomas' long run in the Broadway musical STOMP from early in his NYC years. We hope you enjoy this music as much as we do, and we're thrilled to share it with you. Link in the comments to listen and purchase.

Here's what people are saying so far about Dream Up:

"These are ambitious, polyrhythmic, sonically rich, freely mixing influences in pursuit of a sound that is both personal and unclassifiable." --David Adler, JazzTimes

“Fujiwara has an estimable track record as a bandleader and composer, and here is where I think he’s been a bit undervalued. I’d submit Pith and March On — two strong albums he released in 2023 — as recent evidence for the jury. Now we’re about to get a more idiosyncratic effort, Dream Up, from his Percussion Quartet — a group that harnesses global folkloric traditions in a modern framework of his design.” –Nate Chinen, Take Five

"Every track is an excursion into fresh sounds wrought from ancient folk forms." --Victor Aaron, Something Else! Reviews

OUT NOW! Gray / Pirog / Ballou - Live at FEMA (OOYH B004), featuring Devin Gray - percussion, Anthony Pirog - guitar, and Dave Ballou - trumpet is out today only on Bandcamp (link in the comments). This is the fourth and final of the inaugural batch of the new all-improvised digital-only series OOYH Records Beacons. Spoiler, it is very good!

This recording documents the first meeting of the three musicians, though all were part of the original Out Of Your Head Collective in Baltimore in the early 2010s. They have long been admirers of each other’s work, but this is the first time they performed as a group. The music here was created spontaneously with no set parameters or discussion. Although there has been no edits made, markers have been placed throughout the recording for convenience. Listening in one sitting will provide a complete experience much as the audience enjoyed.

All Beacons art + design is by TJ Huff. Big thanks to Jeff Cosgrove, Bill Shoemaker, and the Fredrick Experimental Music Association for making this concert possible.
