Treat all your gigs as they were your most important gig ever. You never know who's sitting in the audience...

This story might be the craziest thing you've ever heard. Many years ago the parents of our CEO had a gig as a duo waaaay out in the middle of nowhere. Turned out it was a wedding party.

After some songs this drunk, long-haired guy comes up on stage, grabs the mic and starts singing. They were seconds away from kicking him off the stage, but his voice was unbelievably good they just let him go on.

Halfway through the song a woman in the audience was yelling "That's the guy who wrote the song".. Turned out that guy was Max Martin.

You never know who's watching your gigs, so always do your best!

The difference between a good song and a GREAT song is 🧐?

You guessed it 🤯; Mixing AND Mastering

The thing is, most songs and productions are actually not that bad, but in order for YOU to break through the noise and make YOUR songs stand out they HAVE to be mixed and mastered like the popular & professional songs you hear on the radio, on Spotify etc.

If you want your songs to sound just as professional as the best songs out there, then let us help you and your song reach its fullest potential!

When your song starts living a life of its own.... WOW! Last week three newspapers wrote about it, and in one we even got a full page! On top of that the streams just passed 75 000. Madness!
.and this is with an artist that doesn't "exist", doesn't have a huge following on social media, is not signed to a major record label AND with only $150 spent on ads... 🤯🤯

Now how did we do that? Here's exactly how ⬇️:
1. Wrote a great song & released it on Spotify.
2. Posted video on TikTok where we played the song AND had a strong CTA (call to action) to go to Spotify and listen to it there. That video got roughly 60 000 views and gave us around 5000-8000 streams.
3. With "Spotify for Artists" we could see that the majority of the listeners were females age 28-34.
4. We created an Facebook/Instagram ad where we targeted females age 28-34 only matching interests from similar artists (using the Facebook Audience Insights tool). Total budget for this ad campaign was $150.
5. This gave us another boost of streams and most of all; a LOT of saves (which is a very important Spotify metric).
6. The song got placed in a Swedish television serie and this gave the song another boost, and more streams from the discover weekly playlist
7. Now (for the first time) we started to push the song to our friends & family on our private social media channels. The reason is that people are more likely to listen to your songs IF there is some news attached to it. In our case, a placement on TV.
8. That gave us another boost and even more discover weekly playlist streams. Which led to the song entering the Viral chart!
-------
We wrote this song and created this artist as an experiment, and did everything "by the book" as an independent artist with a very small budget and no social media following.

It took 11 months for the song to get to this place. So let this be a reminder to all you guys out there; BE patient and stick to the plan!
Finally, we didn't do any work or post any content at all on this ghost artists social media during this whole period.

Now imaging doing this with an artist that is real, that has a following and that can get some organic momentum as well!
So if you are a real person, and have more than 0 followers, you are instantly in a better position than we were.
We hope this will inspire you and help you grow your fanbase and get your music out there!

Overnight success
Many people are very eager to succeed. Though, most times we don't know exactly what success means or how to achieve it. Essentially, overnight success does not exist. At the very least, it is statistically so rare that people would have a better chance of succeeding by playing the lottery. Success requires hard work, determination, persistence, talent, teamwork and, yes, hard work again. Any “opportunity” that promises to avoid any of the latter is most likely a scam.

You need to be famous
Stop trying to be famous. You don’t need to be famous and world-known to be able to live full time as a musician, artist or producer. You just need to have a great plan and make sure you treat yourself as a brand & product and use content marketing to grow your customer/fanbase!

I need a major label
You DON’T need a major label at all. Everything you need is right in front of you. 98% of all artists get dropped (please refer to our previous post) and that you, as an artist need to do ALL of the work yourself and, with digital distribution being soo cheap you have no excuse not putting your music out there. When you signed for a label you no longer have 100% input into what you are going to write about, who you can collaborate with, how often you release material and your overall image, etc.

If you enjoy creative control, then this is not the move for you. The platforms are there and you can do it all without a label.

I’m too old, I’m too young
Successful companies and bands are not focusing on age. In all aspects of the business, there are lots of professional musicians 30 and older. YOUR AGE ONLY MATTERS IF YOU MAKE IT MATTER.

The music industry works just the same as any other business. At any age, you can be successful as long as you have a strong work ethic, dedication and a lot of value to offer

How Much Should I Charge For My Demo Singing?
▪️
This is one of the most common questions we’ve been asked. There is no “one” answer and the reason is that you have to approach each demo singing project with different outcomes in mind. Sure, the easiest way might seem to be that you have a fixed price and you stick to that no matter what. The truth is, this is not the best strategy in all situations.

Reasonable Price
We normally pay demo singers between $100-$200 per song. These singers are all super professionals and all they have to do is come to the studio, spend 1-2 hours and sing the lead melody, that’s it. It’s not uncommon that you record 2-3 songs per day, and the singer earns $300-$600.

Royalties vs Cash
Not all producers/songwriters/bands etc might have the possibility to pay that much from their own pocket. They still might have huge talent and you truly believe in the song! In these cases, getting a share of the future royalties can be a great deal for both parties. Make sure you sign a contract to avoid future problems. Between 3-5% of the master right is a fair share for you!

Buy-Out
It’s also very common that files from the demo version are used in the final version of the song, especially the backing vocals. Always mention and negotiate a buy-out scenario (before you start working on the song) IF the producer decides to keep your vocals in the final version.

Think Long Term
What is worth more? Working with Max Martin for free or getting paid $1000 to sing one song with an unknown producer? The value of the network that the producer/songwriter has can lead to so much more in the long term if you “do things for free” at the beginning for the right person.

This is what I’ve learned after being a full-time professional in the music industry for more than 15 years!⠀
⠀
Best / Dejo⠀
CEO, Eleven B Studios⠀
⠀
1. Things take time⠀
All of my projects have taken way more time then I expected. I rehearsed with my band for over 4 years before we had our first paid gig. Enjoy the journey.⠀
⠀
2. Social skills vs musical skills⠀
It doesn’t matter if you are a guitar virtuous, without any social skills people won’t stand being around you. People that are less talented but with an amazing personality will get the job every single time. ⠀
⠀
3. The best are humble⠀
I’ve been fortunate to work with some of the best musicians and songwriters in the world. They all have one thing in common; they are extremely humble. People that are cocky or have an attitude are often the less talented ones. ⠀
⠀
4. Things change⠀
Venues comes and goes, band members quit, Physical CD’s are replaced by streaming etc. Things always change, get used to it.⠀
⠀
5. Learn a secondary skill⠀
If you know more than one thing you will increase your chances drastically to “survive” in this industry. If you’re a singer that also plays acoustic guitar, or if you are a drummer that also knows sound engineering, etc.⠀
⠀
6. Know your rights⠀
You need to understand the difference between copyright & master right and what the contracts you sign actually means.⠀
⠀
7. Try multiple genres⠀
Do more than one genre and you’ll learn so much more! The more genres you try, the more tools you’ll add to your toolbox⠀
⠀
8. Learn marketing⠀
This is something that EVERYONE in the music industry should know!⠀
⠀
9. Be available⠀
Move to a city where the jobs, gigs opportunities are and say YES to everything! This is how you build a network and get a good reputation⠀
⠀
10. Give value first⠀
Bring something to the table, be helpful, and always give more than you receive.⠀

Is TikTok REALLY just an app for kids & silly dancing?
Or.. Is it the opportunity of the DECADE for all artists & musicians?

I think back to one of those days in September 2019 when I first downloaded TikTok and felt.. WHAT am I doing here 😂?

Remembering that all of my fellow artists & musicians told me over and over again that “TikTok is only for kids that make cringy dance videos. Why on earth would a 37-year old musician like you use that app?”

The crazy thing is that all of these “app for kids” comments are mostly all MYTHS…
Only backed by the history of TikTok buying the app Musically and merging them together as one.

Sure, the majority of the content is dance, lip-syncing or challenges, but just like Facebook initially was a network made for students, and Instagram initially was just a photo filter app, they both turned into something completely different a few years down the road. The same thing WILL happen to TikTok.

MYTH #1. All of the users on TikTok are 15 years old:
> TikTok has over 800 million users and 73,6% of them are between 20-50 years of age. This means that if you are an artist or musician, YOUR fans & listeners ARE already on TikTok!

MYTH #2. You have to create dance videos to fit in:
> Absolutley NOT! There are SO many different things that you can do, ESPECIALLY if you are an artist & musician! This has been proven over an over by so many TikTok users, myself included.

I started out in September 2019 by creating some random videos, just curious to see how TikTok worked. After a few weeks, and countless of hours of scrolling through the feed, trying to understand this MYSTERY app, I started to realize that this social media network was VERY different compared to the other ones. Here you could collaborate with people all over the world, play along when others sing and add all sorts of value to each other’s content! WOW!

By this time I still only had 40 followers and barely any views on my videos. Sure, this felt a bit frustrating but I was determined to keep on going and create more content. After 4 weeks I had my first small “success” with a video getting 25 000 views, this still with ONLY 40 followers. This made me realize that the saying “anyone can go viral overnight on TikTok” was actually true, despite the amounts of followers you have.

I kept on creating more videos and when I posted video number 32 a few weeks later, things blew up completely! That video went super viral and hit more than 3 million views in less than 5 days! I grew from 240 followers to 70 000 followers in 7 days!! Not only did the video go viral, it also became a “featured” video which meant TONS of traffic to my TikTok profile, which also led to an 120% increase of Instagram followers and an 175% increase of YouTube followers. All of this because of ONE video!

This led to a total explosion of new contacts, new job proposals and an amazing network of people in the music industry finding ME. Fast forward 8 months, and here’s where we are today:

✅ 126 800 followers
✅ 1,4 million likes
✅ 9,3 million views
✅ Produced music for Broadway Musical
✅ Produced music for Nintendo
✅ Increased Spotify Streams
✅ Verified user & part of the TikTok Creator Program

Every single day for the last 7 months I’ve been telling all of my artist & musician friends to download TikTok and start creating content NOW! The most common reply I get is:

“Sure, but I have absolutely NO idea of how the app works or what type of content that I should create?”

This is why I wrote the “TikTok Gameplan” – a guide we’re offering for a limited period of time to all the artists & musicians out there.

This guide gives you the step-by-step process how get started on TikTok and shows you EXACTLY what type of content to create so you’ll grow your fanbase and get more listeners on Spotify ect!
