Secret Soul Society - Don't Runaway out exc to Juno Download on Friday. Juno review: Following a string of admired outings on Paper Recordings, Hot Digits, Rare Wiri and Hell Yeah Recordings, former Neon Heights man Cal Gibson brings his Balearic-minded Secret Soul Society project back to Citizens of Vice - an imprint he last featured on back in 2023.

The Cardiff-based East Midlander begins by wrapping dewy-eyed, delay-laden vocal samples and spacey electronics around druggy synth motifs, sun-splashed pads and shuffling downtempo grooves ('Don't Run Away'), before delivering more chugging and psychedelic colour via the softly spun 'Hello Country Girl'. Gibson's penchant for using lifted (and drifting) vocal snippets comes to the fore once more on the warmer and even more tactile 'Here I Am', while 'Killing Time' is trippy Balearic synth-pop after a few too many Mezcal shots (which is a good thing, by the way). https://www.junodownload.com/products/secret-soul-society-dont-run-away/7272457-02/
