Babygirl – 3.1 (Mega Wack)
The plot was ridiculous and every character was extremely unlikable. I get what they were trying to do with the premise, maybe something raw or edgy, but it never landed. It felt forced and nonsensical from start to finish. Nicole Kidman clearly took on this role just to be called brave, but even she could not save it. I was constantly waiting for something to happen but nothing ever did. Just a slow aimless mess that confused bold with boring.

Secretary tackled this same theme with far better character development and storytelling. It actually gave you a reason to care.

Final Destination: Bloodlines – 7.8 (Dig)

This one was creative, fun, and put a good spin on the franchise. It played with the formula just enough to feel fresh without losing what makes these movies work. Some solid kills, cool visuals, and it actually made me care about a couple of the characters.

Presence – 3.2 (Mega Wack)

This movie was boring. The family was unlikable, the writing felt awkward, and the acting was mechanical. It didn’t seem to have a clear point or direction. The only enjoyable part was the cinematography, which looked great but good visuals weren’t enough to save it.

The pacing dragged from the start and the tension never built to anything meaningful. Characters made decisions that felt forced or just plain confusing. Lucy Liu completely phoned it in, with flat delivery, no presence (get it), and zero emotional weight. The ending made me feel silly for investing 90 minutes watching it.

It felt like a first draft of an idea that never fully developed.

I saw The Ugly Stepsister not really knowing what to expect. Just the title gave off a quirky fairytale gone sideways kind of energy and it delivered.

What really stood out to me was the body horror. It was unexpected but it worked. The way the film portrayed people doing anything to get what they want no matter how horrific the consequences added a dark edge I did not see coming. It also touched on something real like parents using their kids as pawns and it did not shy away from showing how damaging that can be.

The score added to the tension in all the right places. Subtle but effective. It pulled me in without being distracting.

The lead was great. Awkwardly lovable and relatable in a way that made her struggles feel real. You root for her even when she is making questionable choices. The supporting cast added the right mix of weird sweet and chaotic. It worked.

It slowed down a little in the middle but the ending tied things up well. Strange a little sad but satisfying.

This one surprised me. Clever slightly offbeat and packed with sharp themes and eerie visuals.

I give it a strong Dig 7.7 out of 10.

“The Coffee Table” – Mega Dig 8.2/10
Even knowing a bit of what was coming didn’t take away from the suspense—this film builds anxiety like it’s an art form.

My first thought after watching: “What kind of cautionary tale is this?”
Don’t marry a mean woman or leave the furniture decisions to her.
Who knew buying a coffee table could snowball into so much chaos?

Every bead of sweat on Jesús’s brow made me anxious. His wife with the raspy voice and that spiteful, almost evil cackle made her truly unlikable. She made Jesús genuinely sympathetic.

Throw in a stubborn 13-year-old, a nosy dog, and a completely satisfying ending, and you’ve got yourself a Mega Dig. 8.2.

Strange Darling – 7.8 / Dig

Strange Darling surprised me. It blends thriller, horror, and grindhouse energy with a confident, non-linear structure that pulls you in deeper as it unfolds. I saw glimmers of Quentin Tarantino in the pacing and structure, Tobe Hooper in the raw tension, and Rob Zombie in the chaotic brutality.

The acting is sharp, the tension builds without relying on cheap tricks, and the story rewards attention. It doesn’t over-explain. It trusts you to keep up.

One of the biggest standouts for me? It was shot on 35mm Kodak Vision film. That choice gave it a distinct texture and emotional weight. It didn’t just add to the atmosphere—it reignited my own creative drive. I ordered a few rolls from the Film Photography Podcast Store as soon as I got home. This film got me ready to start a new era of photography, with intention and grit.

If you liked Gone Girl or Fresh, or if you’re into movies that feel handmade, unpolished, and smart, Strange Darling is worth your time.

Woman in the Yard – 2.8 (Super Wack)

Not even sure what yard we were in, or why we stayed there so long. Felt like a slow crawl through vague ideas and half-baked drama. If there was a message, it got lost somewhere between the awkward pacing and head-scratching choices.

Definitely one to skip—unless you’re into stylish confusion.

Companion delivers a compelling story built around a clever concept that plays with themes of control and system manipulation. The writing is sharp, the performances feel grounded, and the pacing keeps you engaged throughout. While there are a few plot holes that raise questions if you think too hard, they don’t take away from the overall experience. The film balances tension and intrigue well, making it worth a watch for anyone into sci-fi thrillers with a rebellious edge.

I give it a Dig — 7.3 out of 10.

The Calendar Killer is a total miss. The characters are boring, the story is cliche, and it drags on endlessly. Honestly, I was more entertained watching capybara videos on my phone. Every time I looked up, nothing was happening.

It’s a waste of time with no payoff. If you’re looking for something thrilling, keep looking.

I’d rate it a 2.2—super wack

Well, here we are with Wolf Man, a film that, while not without its foibles, is rather interesting. Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner put in splendid performances—proper acting, the kind that makes you sit up a bit. The story, on the other hand, is a bit like a fine automobile with a slightly underwhelming engine—capable, keeps you going, but you can’t help but feel it could have had a bit more oomph.

That said, it does maintain one’s attention, and the whole affair has a certain ambition that I rather admire. It doesn’t entirely stick the landing, but it’s well worth a watch for its unique take on the werewolf mythos. So, in summary: a good effort, some excellent craftsmanship, but not quite a masterpiece.
