President Boakai Relieves NSA Assistant Director for Operations Wolo of Post

January 22, 2025

Executive Mansion, Monrovia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has relieved Mr.
Nesco Aleo Wolo of his duties as Assistant Director for Operations at the National Security Agency (NSA) with immediate effect.

The decision, taken for administrative reasons, is part of ongoing efforts to ensure the effective and efficient functioning of Liberia’s national security apparatus.

The President assures the public of his unwavering commitment to maintaining the
highest standards of professionalism and accountability across all sectors of government, particularly within the nation’s security institutions.

The President has extended his appreciation to Mr. Wolo for services rendered the Republic and wished him well in his future endeavors.

Office of the First Lady Embroiled in Fraud Scandal

The office of First Lady Kartumu Boakai is embroiled in a fraud scandal involving one of its key officials. The Technical Consultant and the Media and Communication Officer, Varfee Holmes stands accused of fraud after collecting a total of 4,000 USD from two individuals seeking scholarships to study in London.

The two applicants, both Liberian nationals, asserted that the officials took $2,000 each from them, assuring them of success in securing the scholarships, but after the money was handed over, the applicants reported that they received no further communication or support.

The accused, Varfee Holmes speaking via a telephone interview on the Spoon Talk Thursday admitted to collecting the reported amount from the applicants but said the money was a payment for the scholarship which he said is not fully funded.

Holmes earlier denied that the First Lady was in the know of the scholarship scheme, but later flip-flopped saying she was briefed on the surface.

The allegations have stirred widespread outrage and concern among the public, raising questions about the integrity of government officials and the operations of the First Lady’s office.

This incident has cast a shadow over the First Lady’s office at a time when there are ongoing efforts to promote education and development in the country. Many are now calling for stricter oversight and transparency to prevent future cases of fraud within government institutions.

This case comes amid rising concerns about corruption within Liberia's public sector, with many citizens calling for more accountability from those in power. The victims of this alleged scam have expressed their frustration, not only over the loss of money but also over the apparent abuse of trust by those holding influential positions.

President Boakai Accepts Resignation of Former Minister of Commerce & Industry

Thursday, October 10, 2024

Executive Mansion, Monrovia: - President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has accepted the resignation of Mr. Amin Modad, Former Minister of Commerce & Industry.

Mr. Modad resigned following concerns regarding the recent procurement of a vehicle that significantly exceeded the government’s estimated cost for ministerial transportation.

The President noted that while Mr. Modad has contributed to the development of the Ministry during his tenure, the decision to make such a purchase at this time reflected poor judgment and a lack of sensitivity to the current economic environment in the country.

The President has further directed that the vehicle in question be transferred to the General Services Agency (GSA) for appropriate use in accommodating VIP guests of the government.

The Government of Liberia remains committed to upholding transparency, accountability, and prudent resource management in all sectors of public service.

Meanwhile, President Boakai has asked Deputy Minister for Administration Madam Scholastica Tanneh Nyenkan- Nimely to act until a replacement is named.
