I come from a diverse and multicultural background that connects many cultures across continents and generations. My heritage includes Indian, British, Spanish, Chinese, Malaysian, and Filipino roots, all coming together in the southern Philippines.

Paternal Side

My paternal grandmother was born in Zamboanga del Sur. Her family had Indian and Spanish ancestry, and she was raised in the rich cultural setting of Mindanao.

My paternal grandfather was born in India, with Indian and British roots. His British lineage came from the colonial period when Anglo-Indians lived in the region. My grandparents raised their family in India, where my father was born. In the early 1990s, my father moved to the Philippines and settled in Zamboanga.

Maternal Side

My maternal grandfather came from Sitangkai, Tawi-Tawi, a town in the far south of the Philippines known for its strong ties to Malaysia. He was of Muslim Malaysian descent.

My maternal grandmother was Chinese and born in Sabah, Malaysia. Though my maternal grandparents never married, they had one child, my mother.

Bringing Cultures Together

My mother, with Filipino, Malaysian, and Chinese roots, met my father in Zamboanga. He brought with him Indian, British, and Spanish heritage. Their union combined six different cultures from both East and West.

Sadly, my father passed away when I was just a month old. Later, in 1995, my mother married Generoso Lopez from the well-known Lopez family of Cavite. He legally adopted me, giving me his name, a new beginning, and a deeper connection to Filipino heritage.

Ang mga Exits marks ay ang main intersections na nakapaligid sa mga ring road ng Riyadh City pero nakakalito rin minsan kasi 'yung numbering ay 'di laging sequential. Ang Exits 1 hanggang 8 ay kinasasakupan ng Northern Ring road, then ang Exits 8 hanggang 18 ay ang Eastern Ring Road. Sa Exit 18 naman ay ang Southern Ring Road, hanggang pa-ikot na ito ng Western Ring Road hanggang makarating muli ng Exit 1. Nakakalito noh? pinaikot-ikot lang tayo, kagaya ng X natin!

Ang nakakatuwa, kung ano ang larawan mo simula ng dumating ka sa Saudi, 'yun at iyon pa rin ang mag-a-appear sa Iqama, kahit pa mag-exit ka at bumalik ka man ulit Saudi, 'yung picture mo pa rin noong unang salta o dating mo sa Airport ang makikita.

Mula sa tatlong connecting Flight, pa-Hongkong, pa-Qatar at Pa-Saudi or total of 22 hours at apat na oras na pila sa Airport-immigration, ito ang naging resulta at itsura ni Raymond Lopez noong 2015 😂😂

One of the highlights of our journey in AlUla was visiting the iconic Elephant Rock. Standing tall in the middle of the golden desert, this natural wonder truly took our breath away. Shaped by centuries of wind and sand, the rock formation looks just like a giant elephant, peacefully resting in the open landscape.

We were amazed by the beauty of nature and the peaceful atmosphere around us. As the sun began to set, the colors of the sky and the rock blended perfectly, creating a magical moment we’ll never forget.

A visit to Elephant Rock is more than just sightseeing, it’s a reminder of how wonderful and mysterious our world can be.

Her recent visit to Saudi Arabia was not just another celebrity tour. Despite the fact that since 2021, the Kingdom no longer strictly requires women, locals or foreigners, to wear the traditional abaya or hijab, Pia chose to dress modestly and respectfully, in full accordance with local customs. She wasn’t obligated to, but she did it out of cultural sensitivity and admiration for the values of the place she was visiting.

The Saudi government has made great strides in offering more freedom to women when it comes to fashion and self-expression. But with that freedom also comes the opportunity to show respect. Modesty doesn’t mean erasing identity, it means adapting gracefully and honoring the traditions that have shaped generations.

As overseas Filipinos living and working in Saudi Arabia, may we always carry ourselves with dignity and cultural awareness. Let Pia’s example remind us that we represent not just ourselves, but our people, our values, and our respect for the place that welcomes us.

Modesty is not a limitation, it’s a sign of humility, understanding, and mutual respect.
