In 2019, our family had to put life on hold after our son underwent open heart surgery at just four months old.

Like many families navigating unexpected medical challenges, work and plans paused while we focused on what mattered most.

In recognition of Heart Awareness Week, I wanted to share more about why I stepped away from We Cover Cheer and how that experience has shaped my perspective as I return.

Today, he is six years old and thriving and has even started showing interest in cheer and dance.

A new season doesn’t always start with a new routine.

January often lands right in the middle of cheer and dance season with state championships and national competitions right around the corner. It can be a great time to pause, reset and refocus on what matters most.

Back in 2008, I photographed the Wyoming Spirit Squad for the first time. It lead to being their photographer for a few years and attending all the football and basketball games to photograph their cheerleaders and dancers. Fast forward to the year 2021 and now I am a senior at Grand Canyon University and living in the Phoenix area. My wife and I have been season ticket holders for a couple of years now to the GCU Men's Basketball. Last night was so much fun as Wyoming played GCU in Phoenix. The Mrs. and I turned it into a date night. The game was everything a fan could hope for in college basketball! Of course the Grand Canyon University Cheerleaders & Grand Canyon University Dance Team both looked amazing too! The GCU Cheerleaders and Dancers are some of the best we have ever seen. You can tell the hard work they put in. It shows at every game!
