👀🐴 Here’s a jawbone vidéo for you, as performed by Senen Rivera of Black Diamonds of Providence , on their song “De Seh Seh” ( digital / 7” ).
Closely associated with Caribbean musical traditions such as mento and calypso, the jawbone (or “quijada de caballo” here) is literally made from the jawbone of a horse (or a donkey). Notice the loose teeth that vibrate against their socket, producing this lovely sound ❤️
Although part of Colombia 🇨🇴, Old Providence Island (Providencia) is located further north west in the Caribbean sea (off the coast of Nicaragua) and retains this peculiar tradition !

Hailing from Providencia, Colombia (Old Providence Island), Henner, Derrick, Luis, Feliciano and Senen form the Black Diamonds. a band that seamlessly blends the irresistible grooves of reggae with the infectious rhythms of calypso, creating a sound that is both timeless and refreshingly original.
For years, Black Diamonds have been synonymous with the laid-back, soulful reggae sound of Old Providence Island, crafting songs that reflect the Caribbean’s easy rhythms and rich cultural heritage. Their debut release, however, takes an unexpected—and thoroughly enjoyable—detour into calypso, proving that the band is more than capable of stepping outside its comfort zone.
The release also features a remix by Venezuelan producer and multi-instrumentalist , who transforms the song into a dancefloor-ready journey, blending electronic textures with soukous-inspired Afro-house rhythms for a bold, cross-Caribbean reinterpretation.
