This volume not only celebrates Palenque Records 20 years+ of activism; it also marks the 20th anniversary of French-Colombian label Galletas Calientes Records, and stands as an homage to the memory of deceased, maestro of Caribbean psychedelic grooves Abelardo Carbono.

Hailing from the Pacific coast of Colombia, La Ruka is a key figure on the country’s music scene. Blending hip-hop, salsa, Afro-Colombian roots and a wide variety of urban Latin genres in her songs, the now Barcelona-based singer is known for her powerful storytelling and the raw energy she puts in every project she’s involved in.
With iconic songs such as “No Quiero Marido”, “Todo Es Plata” and her numerous appearances in successful projects like Malecon, Sultana or La Suculenta Chirrimia, La Ruka has been in the game for more than 20 years, and she was singing Salsa Choke before anyone else.
La Ruka mostly sings about women, Afro-descendent women, and day-to-day life on the Pacific Coast of Colombia, mainly the Buenaventura area where she originated from. Despite her extensive carrier, she still sings in Colombian and Spanish public transports, carrying her speaker around her neck and improvising about people and cultures surrounding her.
“Ya Es Hora Pacifico” - Galletas Calientes Records « Colombian Singles Series Vol. 4 » - is probably the first collection of songs entirely dedicated to her raw talent; an EP compiling Dembow, Afrobeats, Hip-Hop and Salsa Choke produced by beatmakers from Colombia, U.S.A and the U.K

🍍Big release day! Abelardo Carbono, Quantic - Là Piña Madura (Voilaaa Remix) 🙌
2nd single from the forthcoming “AfroColombia Remix Vol. 3” compilation!
Abelardo Carbono’s “La Piña Madura”, originally composed alongside British producer Quantic, was already a standout with its blend of Afro-Latin rhythms and modern grooves. The track’s infectious energy and rich, tropical instrumentation with elements of Afrobeat made it a unique piece. But when Bruno “Patchworks” Hovart, the creative force behind the one-man project Voilaaa, takes the reins for the remix, the song undergoes a complete transformation. Voilaaa’s funky rework leaves only Carbono’s charismatic vocals intact, weaving a new sonic landscape from scratch with expertly crafted instruments and grooves.
This remix is a masterclass in reinvention, where Voilaaa skilfully deconstructs the original and rebuilds it with a fresh, funky twist, adding their own brilliantly played instruments to create something entirely new, while honouring the song’s roots. It’s a remix that’s both playful and sophisticated, a perfect balance between the tropical energy of the original and the infectious groove of contemporary funk.
La Piña Madura Remix is the second single from the long-awaited AfroColombia Remix Vol. 3, a joint production between Colombian labels .calientes Records and , celebrating their 20 years + activism. It also stands as an homage to the deceased maestro of Caribbean psychedelic grooves Abelardo Carbono.
