TOP 3 CAUSES OF DEATH IN THE PH

The top three causes of death in the country from January to November of 2022 were ischaemic heart diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, and neoplasms, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.

In the same period in 2021, the leading causes of death were ischaemic heart diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, and COVID-19 virus.

Ischaemic heart diseases were the leading cause of death from January to November 2022, with 103,628 cases, accounting for 18.4 percent of the total deaths in the country.

Cerebrovascular diseases came in second with 57,411 deaths (10.2% share), while neoplasms were the third leading cause, accounting for 57,354 recorded cases (10.2% share).

Deaths due to diabetes mellitus recorded 35,712 cases or a 6.3 percent share, making it the fourth leading cause of death, while deaths due to hypertensive diseases, which ranked fifth, recorded 32,339 cases or a 5.7 percent share.

The information about the causes of death provided by PSA was gathered from registered deaths that were either reported in a timely manner or belatedly at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrar throughout the country. The data was subsequently submitted for encoding to the Office of the Civil Registrar General through the Provincial Statistical Offices (PSOs) of the PSA. | via PSA
