Phasing out fossil fuel vehicles is not just an environmental necessity but an economic and health imperative. The shift to cleaner, smarter, and more efficient transportation will lead to a more sustainable and resilient future.

Sharing a story of hope, of courage, of selflessness, things we can all take inspiration from at a time of intense loss, sorrow and despair.

This is Ahmed al-Ahmed.

Most Aussies now know him as the hero of the Bondi massacre.

A man with two young daughters, everything to live for, who could have run the other way but chose to put his own life at risk for others.

He was shot several times in his efforts and is undergoing surgeries in hospital.

An act of such selflessness and love for others, an intensely human act of solidarity, and bravery of the very highest order.

A reminder of another hero, the security guard who did likewise during the Bondi Junction stabbings a few years ago, Muhammad Taha, a Pakistani who was then offered citizenship.

It shows that it doesn’t matter where we’re from, what colour we are, what language we speak, these men demonstrate that selflessness and love for others should always prevail.

And they remind us what Australia is all about.

All communities together, all protecting each other, putting others first. Violence is a cycle that never ends until enough people decide that it will. When enough see the humanity in others. And these acts of love and selflessness, seeing people at risk without conditions, without provisos but as fellow humans, provide a light for everyone to see, and to replicate.

Thankyou to Ahmed.

You’re an absolute legend mate.

A three-tier government partnership is needed to fund enabling infrastructure and deliver new homes sooner. Council is advocating for $150 million from the Australian Government, $150 million from the Queensland Government, and $150 million from Cairns Regional Council to unlock Mount Peter and support sustainable, well-planned growth for current and future residents. The success of the Cairns Water Security Stage 1 partnership demonstrates the effectiveness of this model.

A good reminder that politics in not a 'spectator sport' and it is more important to engage now than ever.

The first round of upgrades have been implemented to the My Cairns app as part of a longer term optimisation project.
Users can download or update the latest version from the App Store or Google Play.

The home screen now features Council news, improving the opportunity to reach residents with relevant messages.
Once users have put in their home address, the app will show the storm surge zone of that property, making it easier for residents to know their risk and prepare for storm season.

Targeted notifications can reach residents based on their suburb or even down to their street – if they have allowed notifications for our app.

The app remains the quickest and easiest way to report a non-urgent problem that needs fixing to Council.

Together, we can advance progressive values and deliver meaningful reforms for generations to come. So you don’t need political experience to make a difference – here’s how you can get involved:
- Educate Yourself and Others: Stay informed about key issues and share this knowledge in your community. Thoughtful discussions help spread progressive values.
- Engage in Local Politics: Attend council meetings, community forums and local events. Grassroots activism creates real change where it matters most.
- Volunteer for Progressive Campaigns: Lend your time and skills to causes you believe in. Whether canvassing, phone banking or event organising, every contribution counts.
- Advocate for Change: Make your voice heard by contacting elected representatives. Letters, calls and social media pressure all help shape policy decisions.
- Support Progressive Organisations: Donate or volunteer with groups driving progressive change. Their expertise and networks multiply our collective impact.
