With Hurricane Erin tracking offshore, North Carolina beaches will see major impacts this week...especially the Outer Banks.

Expect 15–20 ft waves, coastal flooding with possible Highway 12 closures, and widespread rip current risks peaking Wednesday into Thursday.

Hurricane Erin is changing structure this morning.

It dropped from a Category 5 last night to a Category 3 with 125 mph winds, but don’t let that fool you...it’s actually growing in size.

👉 Hurricane-force winds reach 25 miles from the center

👉 Tropical-storm-force winds stretch more than 200 miles out

👉 Rainbands spinning in all directions

This “eyewall replacement cycle” makes Erin weaker for now, but it spreads the impacts across a much larger area. Once the cycle is complete, Erin is forecast to restrengthen.

Today is going to be a great day! We have a picturesque sunrise to start off our Sunday.

It's the perfect day to get outdoors with noticeably less rainfall in the forecast, aside from the chance for an afternoon light shower. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s in WNC.
