It's a new low in Indian Democracy where there are multiple social media posts asking NRI's to donate money for fighting against the COVID 19 crisis in India.
Most of the Indians who are in bay area comes from a middle class family. They are even, without the crisis times, supporting the families living in India. Now when social media posts makes them guilty for earning big tech salaries and not donating for India's fight against COVID 19 is astonishing.
We're not suggesting that people should not donate money for this cause. But with every rupee they sent they should also be asking the questions from the elected government that why are the systems not being funded from the tax money and relying on private donations.
When PM-CARES was launched it received crores of rupees in only couple of days. Everyone opened their wallets and donated. It was done a year ago and till today there is no transparency what's the total amount collected and how is that being spent or planned to being spent.
Government has found a way to lessen the burden on exchequer by asking money from people. By donating every-time whenever the government asks for money, creates a positive but vicious feedback loop. Now whenever there is a crisis, government is going to ask for money from people. So think that why are we even paying tax. If this is the way to run critical systems of the country, the government should follow this only and stop collecting tax. Any time we have a new project, ask people to donate. In this fashion Indian Government should start it's own version of Kickstarter/ Indiegogo.
Donate if you can, but don't feel proud or share on social media. You should be ashamed that money might solve crisis for a bit but till the time you don't asks for good systems to be in place, nothing is going to change.
