Levee Road is closed as of 10 a.m. Tuesday. Highway 1 between Olema and Point Reyes Station is also closed, as is Platform Bridge Road. Be prepared for the detour through Nicasio and stay clear of flooded areas!

Update, 10:22 a.m.: One lane is open.

10:05 a.m.: County fire is reporting that Highway One in Marshall, just south of Nick's Cove, will be shut down for about 30 minutes due to a tree that fell onto the road. Phones lines were also brought down.

Update: 4:00 p.m.: The fire has stopped progressing, according to the Marin County Fire Department.

Update: 3:00 p.m.: crews making good progress. Fire holding at about 30 to 35 acres, with a potential to grow to 50.

Update: 2:30 p.m.: At approximately 30 acres, potential for growth to 80 to 100 acres.

County fire crews are at the scene of an approximately 12 acre vegetation fire on Rocky Hill, near the Nicasio reservoir. There are no structures threatened or evacuations ordered at this time. Sheriffs are advising that Point Reyes Petaluma Road is closed between Nicasio Valley Rd and Novato Blvd.

6/17/21: 1:30 p.m. Point Reyes Petaluma Road is shut down at Hwy 1 in Point Reyes Station (Platform Bridge Road is also shut down at Sir Francis Drake Blvd) due to a vehicle accident with a power pole and power lines down.

One morning last month, Woodacre resident Tim Cain started his 2009 Toyota Prius, and what he heard sounded more like a Harley Davidson motorcycle. His catalytic converter was stolen—one of more than 350 thefts in Marin this year.

Catalytic converter thefts are on the rise across the nation as the price of precious metals founds in the devices goes up. Because the parts are not serialized, law enforcement officers struggle to investigate unless the culprit is caught in the act.

Generation 2 Prius models, from 2004 to 2009, are the number-one target because the cars are light, and their catalytic converters are easy to saw off. The latest victim parked their car on Mesa Road in Point Reyes Station last weekend.

Brenton Schneider, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, suggested that people etch their license plate number into their catalytic converter and park in a garage or a well-lit-area. Shields can also be purchased for around $200.

In March, two suspects were arrested in Novato for cutting up and selling more than 2,500 catalytic converters to a recycler in Southern California, receiving several hundred thousand dollars in return. Photo from MCSO.

5:27 a.m., May 6, 2021: Fire crews are responding to a small vegetation fire on Highway 1, just north of Olema-Bolinas Road. It sounds from radio traffic that it’s likely to be contained relatively easily.
