The European Union election observation mission continues its engagement with media stakeholders ahead of Malawi’s September 16, 2025 General Election.

Today, the mission’s press officer, Emelia Hinkkanen, visited the Malawi Institute of Journalism (MIJ) in Lilongwe, where she held discussions with management and later on interacted with students on the role of the press in elections.

Over the weekend, members of the team also met with the Media Council of Malawi and other electoral stakeholders to exchange views on media freedoms and election coverage.

The mission which arrived in the country earlier this month, is assessing the electoral landscape in line with international and regional standards as well as Malawian law ahead of the polls.
