Carmel QB Anthony Coellner Explains His Flip to Boston College
Carmel senior quarterback Anthony Coellner—the No. 3 prospect in his class and one of Indiana’s hottest rising stars—has officially flipped his commitment from Troy University to Boston College. And according to Coellner, the decision came down to a combination of opportunity, development, and long-term vision.
Coellner told Indiana Preps that several key factors pushed Boston College to the top: the school’s strong academics, deep football tradition, and the chance to compete for an ACC championship. But the defining piece was the coaching staff.
“Some of the big takeaways that set Boston College apart from other schools are their academics, history, and tradition,” Coellner said. “This combined with the opportunity to get developed by Coach O’Brien and Coach DiBiaso, as well as the chance to compete for an ACC championship all led to why I chose BC.”
Newly hired BC head coach Bill O’Brien—known nationally for his development of elite quarterbacks—played a major role in Coellner’s decision. O’Brien has coached names like Tom Brady, Bryce Young, and Deshaun Watson, a track record that Coellner says gave him total confidence in his growth at the next level.
“With Coach O’Brien coaching guys like Tom Brady, Deshaun Watson, Bryce Young, and many others, it gives me the confidence that he will develop me into becoming the best possible quarterback I can be,” Coellner said.
Though Carmel’s postseason run ended earlier than expected in the sectional round, Coellner solidified himself as one of the state’s top playmakers this fall — and now looks ahead to taking his game to the Power Five level. The Eagles are getting a polished competitor with high upside and the mindset to match.
