Last week, my phone’s Google news feed sent me an interesting article about some Ohio litigation. Although it is not an agricultural case, the action demonstrates the importance of a discussion I have with every client before initiating a legal claim. If I take action, what could the opposing party do in response? Since I have not reviewed these court filings and am relying on detailed information provided by others, I will not be using the actual party names. Everything else, however, is real.

Within thirty days, Bubba had determined that the information on Karen’s income was not sufficient for final approval. Bubba had the Cadillac repossessed while Karen was at work.

My initial conversation with Bubba would have caused him to think of any and every possible action Karen might take in response to the repossession.… Continue reading

I can’t remember a season with rainfall as scattered as I’ve seen this year. It will be important to keep detailed records of rainfall amounts to properly assess crop performance for each of your fields.

Keep scouting your fields to keep ahead of diseases and other pests. Tar spot in corn has shown up in areas with some reporting infestations earlier than last year. With this being a relatively new problem, it is important to monitor the spread and specifically hybrid reactions, as we are still evaluating tolerance levels of many newer products.… Continue reading
