The range of food consumption in July has been wild. So wild that I ended up making pasta... thrice! That said, I didn’t ignore my regular boiled daal-bhaat—occasionally spiced up with a cheeky hot toddy. But the star of the month? Easily the sumptuous Mangalore buns, with steam still oozing out.
Let’s not forget the Indian-Chinese Hakka noodles we wolfed down at a stall outside Khed station (Maharashtra). Absolute lifesaver.
Should I go on? Okay! I have two words for you: vada pav. Nothing beats it when you're on the road. The masala, paired with the monsoon, somehow makes being in Maharashtra make sense. There's nowhere else I'd rather spend my monsoons than in the state I’ve called home for the past 11 years—as long as I don’t have to navigate the puddles and Bombay roads.
Another thing I’ve been lusting over this monsoon is... wait for it... khichdi (with something). Could be with some appalam, jhuri aloo, or just plain old alu—anything potato, crispy, or both. It’s not sick food. It’s a proper luxury if you make it with mustard oil.
What food have you been going absolutely bonkers over? Tell me 🥵🥰
