As part of our year-long celebration, we have been proud to present this special event series in Chicago, focusing on a different album from our catalog on the last Monday of every month across 2025 at the Hungry Brain. Each 𝟭𝟭 𝗼𝗳 𝟭𝟭 event features deep listening of an album, followed by a small group of musicians performing an interpretation of that album.

On 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟰 we will feature a full listening of 𝗷𝗮𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵’s 𝐅𝐋𝐘 𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐈𝐄 𝐈𝐈: 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐝𝐨𝐠𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐞, followed by a performance by bassist 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝘁𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗵 with 𝗥𝗼𝗯 𝗙𝗿𝘆𝗲 (sax,flute), 𝗧𝗼𝗯𝘆 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 (guitar), 𝗟𝘂𝗸𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝘁 (bass) and more TBA.

The IA11 Edition of Alabaster DePlume’s 𝐓𝐨 𝐂𝐲 & 𝐋𝐞𝐞: 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐕𝐨𝐥. 𝟏 is OUT NOW on all digital music platforms (ahead of the vinyl LP, which will be in stores December 5th). This expanded edition includes the addition of two digital-only bonus tracks “𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲” and “𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗔𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄,” which were recorded by DePlume circa 2013, concurrently with some of the pieces on the original album.

Along with today’s digital release, we’ve published the new liner notes for the IA11 Edition of To Cy and Lee on our website, which were written by DePlume himself. An excerpt:
“Do you know that it’s called Visit Croatia because my friend said “it sounds like holiday advert music, you should call it Visit Croatia”. In a half-humour act of stubbornness, defiance and enjoyment of the absurd, I took him up on his suggestion. “We will see”. At the time I made it, the idea that my music could ever have a legitimate audience was remote for me, and absurd for nearly anyone else.
That song’s melody arrived with me as I was walking with Cy and Lee to Cy’s car, from their house. I remember it precisely. It was time to drive somewhere, maybe their friend Pat’s house, maybe one of the many music sessions that the team and I supported them to run. Maybe the pub, maybe Tuesday club. When I started that job I thought I was just “getting a job” because I “have to make money” in order to “live”. No-one could have told me that it would teach me profound lessons about leadership, performance and music, and that it would one day connect me with you, the person who is reading these words somewhere today.”

Along with today’s release of SML ’s c on LP, CD, and DD, album track "𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗦𝗛𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗠" (plus sick animation by Nespy5euro) is out as a single on DSPs, with the full album to follow on streaming platforms November 25th.

“Brood Board SHROOM” is a temporary touchdown on an alien planet where rhythm moves in timeless, breath-like undulations. The track’s opening lines evoke the soft throbs of the beloved ambient works of Aphex Twin (or perhaps a Robitussen-drenched take on Steve Reich’s Different Trains), before frothy curtains of textured sound drape into the mix, overlaying like distant, minimalist symphonies in a gentle, synthetic recreation of free time — slackening and accelerating as each layer of tonal pulses hovers to front-and-center or retreats into the distance. It’s a gut feeling rather than an academic exercise, and it’s all in the service of forward motion.

SPOILER ALERT: a few sneak peeks at some of the arrangements written by Nate Walcott for Tortoise and the Chicago Philharmonic and their first ever performance / collaboration at Chicago’s this coming Tuesday 11/11. If we weren’t excited enough already... this is really pushing it over the top, going to be so epic !!! Also included a look at the stage plot, and some words from the Chicago Philharmonic about the instrumentation for the evening: “It’s a 29-piece orchestra, and with some really interesting woodwind/brass instrumentation that gives the orchestra a lot of tonal flexibility. For example, our trumpets will be doubling on flugelhorn, our flutist will double on alto flute, etc. It’s a fun parallel to Tortoise’s musicians being such excellent multi-instrumentalists themselves.” Damn!
