DAY 1 OF THE 2026 MPUMALANGA WOMEN’S PARLIAMENT
The Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature commenced Day 1 of the 2026 Women’s Parliament earlier today at the fully packed Merriam Mogakane Hall (Acornhoek)in Bushbuckridge Local Municipality.
The programme began with a welcoming address by the Speaker of Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, Cllr Raganya. The first day focused on receiving progress reports from provincial departments regarding the implementation of the resolutions adopted during the 2025 Women’s Parliament.
Participants also discussed the 2026 Local Government Elections, with particular emphasis on youth voter abstention and the importance of encouraging young people to participate actively in democratic processes.
Presentations of progress on implementation of 2025 resolutions were received from the Office of the Premier (Mpumalanga) , DoE,DSD,DEDT,DCSSL,DCSR,DARLEA,DPWRT,COGHSTA and IEC, all these by women in leadership in their departments and entities.
The delegates later broke into commissions to deliberate on various challenges affecting women and to develop recommendations aimed at advancing women’s empowerment and improving their socio-economic well-being. The two-day programme will conclude tomorrow on Friday,21 August 2026.
