LUSAKA DAD JAILED FOR STEALING JACOBS COFFEE WORTH K279.99

A 35-year-old Lusaka man has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour after pleading guilty to stealing a jar of Jacobs coffee valued at K279.99 from Shoprite along Cairo Road.

Mark Vlahakis, a resident of Makeni, admitted the offence before Lusaka Magistrate Mwandu Sakala and revealed that he is a second-time offender. In mitigation, Vlahakis told the court that financial struggles had pushed him into the act, explaining that his job barely meets the needs of his household.

“I honestly want to say I am sorry to you and the State. I have two little daughters I am taking care of and I am a single parent. Honestly, I work a job that barely meets our needs,” he said.

Despite the plea, Magistrate Sakala emphasized the seriousness of repeat offences, particularly noting that the theft was committed at the same supermarket.

“It’s alarming that he is a second offender,” the magistrate said. “I sentence you to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour from the date of arrest and I hope you will learn your lesson and not repeat this.”

The case has since stirred light-hearted conversations among Lusaka residents, with some joking that “these days even coffee is behaving like rent—too expensive and demanding respect.” Others quipped that while many people rely on caffeine to wake up, this particular cup of coffee has instead “woken someone up straight into six months of reflection.”

Trump says missing US crew member from downed jet rescued in 'daring' operation in Iran

(BBC) An American crew member rescued after a fighter jet was shot down over Iran is "SAFE and SOUND", Donald Trump says.

The operation to rescue the weapon systems officer involved hundreds of US troops and dozens of warplanes, BBC's US media partner CBS reports.

The CIA also launched a deception campaign to aid the rescue, according to CBS.

The rescue ends a high-stakes mission that began on Friday. The pilot on board was found earlier, Trump confirms.

This will be some relief for Trump, as the US avoids a prisoner of war being used for Iranian propaganda, writes our correspondent in Dubai.
