Campaign Launched to Combat GBV in Babessi Sub-Division.

The Babungo community was enlightened on the pressing issue of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) as Rescue Women, through the Survivors Voices Against R**e (SuVaR) program, launched a sensitization campaign in Babessi sub-division. Led by Abonge Laura, the team addressed the community via Babungo Community Radio, shedding light on the scourge of sexual violence, its consequences, and prevention strategies.

Defining GBV as a harm perpetrated due to power imbalance, the team explored the various forms of violence, including physical, psychological, economic, and sexual abuse. Emphasizing that r**e is never the survivor's fault, they advised community members to avoid late-night movements and dress decently as preventive measures. The team also stressed the importance of timely medical attention, urging community members to rush to the hospital within 72 hours in cases of sexual violence.

The devastating effects of GBV, particularly r**e, were highlighted, including low self-esteem, depression, hypersexuality, and trauma. The SuVaR team's efforts aim to empower the community with knowledge and support, fostering a culture of zero tolerance to GBV.

Happy Sunday to everyone. His Royal Majesty King Ndofoa Zofoa III, ruler of Babungo, has paid an important visit to one of Babungo's elite, Professor Lambi Cornelius, resident in Buea.

While His Majesty the King of Babungo was in Buea for the VEMNCUDA annual national convention, he did not see Professor Lambi Cornelius and decided to pay him a visit to understand the reason for his absence from the convention, only to discover that Professor Lambi Cornelius had been involved in an accident and has been unwell.

We wish him a speedy recovery.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Mama Gweche Rosaline yutikeh,the Mother of Mr Ngekie Ezikiel, who departed this life around 7pm yesterday, November 29th in Bamenda.

She had been battling a prolonged illness, which led to a successful surgery at the Regional hospital in Bamenda. Unfortunately, she developed severe post-surgery complications and despite her courageous fight, she succumbed to her illness.

May her soul rest in peace.
