Letting go isn’t failure, it’s making space. When your hands are full of what was, you can’t receive what could be.

There’s a moment when you have to decide whether it’s time to pivot, push harder, or simply let go. We’ve been there: the endless attempts to revive a product or idea that just isn’t working, trying every trick in the book, switching strategies. And sometimes, you do everything you can and it still falls flat. It’s frustrating, it’s heartbreaking, but it’s also a lesson. Because knowing when to let go is just as important as knowing when to hold on.

But here’s the twist: letting go isn’t always about failure. Sometimes, it’s about releasing something at its very best. It is about holding everything lightly.

It’s about trusting that there’s a new assignment, a new door waiting to open, but you have to release your grip on the old one first.

It’s not easy. But whether you’re letting go of something that’s failing or releasing something at its peak, it’s about trust. Trust that there’s a bigger picture, trust that something new is on its way, and trust that sometimes the best chapters end with a full stop, not a fade-out.

Here’s the takeaway: Don’t be afraid to let go, whether it’s of something that isn’t working or something that’s at its very best. Letting go doesn’t mean giving up, it means making space. Space for the new, the unexpected, and the next part of the journey. Hold everything lightly, because the moment you learn to release your grip is the moment your hands are free to receive whatever comes next.

Is it time to let go?

This is the face of depression.
The face of suicidal thoughts.
The face of su***de attempts.

Friends, I share these pictures to show you how deceiving appearances can be.

I looked happy, right? But behind those smiles, I was battling suicidal thoughts daily and later attempted to take my life. The thoughts continued for another 2 years.

I felt like a ticking time bomb.

On the surface, I was ‘fine,’ but inside, I believed no one would care if I spoke up and honestly hated my life and what it had become.
I had lost hope.
Lost my ambition.
Lost all my possessions.
Lost my ability to work.
And had an incredibly sick child that somewhat wrecked life.

After my su***de attempt, I had no choice but to open up, not to a crowd, but to a few who truly loved and cared for me. They didn’t have all the answers, but they listened. To be honest, they had no answers. They just let me be. No judgement - just love. And that changed everything.

Just over a year ago, I was in that dark place again, out of nowhere. But this time, I spoke up and got help.

The last nine years have been incredibly humbling, but also the years I’ve experienced God’s presence and the deep love of family more than ever. My life fell apart, I lost everything - yet, I made it through. And so can you.

Two things I need you to know:

1. If you’re struggling with your mental health, you’re not alone. Don’t suffer in silence. I did, and it almost cost me my life. Someone out there cares. Find them, speak up, and get the help you need. If you don’t have that someone, please reach out to our friends at Sadag on 0800 567 567, who are available to listen 24/7.

2. If you’re looking in, be available and that safe space for someone. That one conversation could mean the difference between life and death, between hope and despair.

Friends, may we never be so caught up in life that we miss the cries for help around us. It could be your spouse, child, co-worker, padel partner or favourite petrol attendant. Anywhere, everywhere - someone is struggling. And more often than not, it’s packaged in a smile.

May we choose to see, to listen, and to be there. Can we?

Sending you all much love ❤️

More money, more success, more recognition. But what do you really need?

You need real, deep, unconditional love. You need peace, the kind thats unexplainable. You need a community that knows you, sees you and stands with you. You need a purpose that makes getting up in the morning exciting. You need moments with family and moments of laughter and stillness.🫂

The rest? It’s just extra.

Yes you need money to live but you can't let it cost you living.

So, when it feels like you’re fighting to hold on, and to 'keep it up' ask yourself: Is it time to let go? Because the greatest adventures often start when you finally release what you were never meant to hold onto forever.❣️

PARENTS / FRIENDS / HUMANS! NEED TO HIDE OUT? WE’VE GOT A SPOT. 🙋‍♂️

Co**ha in Ballito is your official safe house. Whether you need a moment away from the kids, your inbox, or just life in general, we won’t ask questions. Hide behind the counter, under a table, or in a coffee cup if you must - just don’t touch the croissants. That’s a crime.

This isn’t just a café. It’s a home away from home but with better coffee, food that doesn’t require you to cook, and zero risk of stepping on Lego. The coffee? Strong enough to power a small village. The croissants? Flakier than your gym buddy. The vibe? Kickass. The staff? Always smiling, possibly high on helium, and ready to make your day better!

And then there’s Tia. The legend. The human version of an espresso shot. If she’s not running Co**ha, she’s literally running - on the beach, the padel court, through the streets, possibly into your heart. She’s built a space that just feels good - welcoming, full of life, and the kind of place you never want to leave.

Oh, and dogs are welcome. So bring your pooch, your neighbour’s pooch, or even your boyfriend, if that’s what you call him.

So pull in if you need a place to refuel, recharge, or just eat something delicious without sharing. We’ll save you a seat (but not a croissant, those go fast).

Tag your coffee-loving, chaos-escaping, carb-craving crew and make tomorrow a date! ☕🥐 Co**ha and Tia, we love you long time!

In 2022, while collecting donations for KZN flood victims, we received a simple pan and a yellow bucket. At first, they seemed ordinary, until we heard the story.

They belonged to Cindy, an 88-year-old woman with no family in SA, living on financial support. Despite having so little, she gave what she had: a pan, a bucket, a saucer, and some clothing🥹 That's all she had.

Her act of kindness was a reminder that kindness should be accessible to everyone, and the ripple can start with you💛

So here is a little post today to remind you of your own blessings and to hopefully inspire you to stand up and be counted as one that has made a difference in this life🌿

Today, my 5 year old taught me something beautiful...

I said that I wanted to colour my hair, he looked at me and said, "No don't, I love how you look. You look like my mom."😍 I absolutely melted in that moment🫠

But as I thought about it, here was my child one of the people who love me most, reminding me that I am already enough. He sees me and am perfect in his eyes🩷

How often do we chase validation from people who don’t even truly see us?

So today, if you’re doubting yourself, feeling like you need to be more or better to be beautiful, just stop for a moment. Think of the ones who love you most. To them, you are already everything. And maybe, they actually see the truth we so often forget🪞

You are loved. Just as you are.

Morning Legends! 🥳

Many of you don’t know us from a bar of Dove soap, and it will take some time before we begin to hang out, but I wanted to give you a sneak peek into our world before the Dolphin Coast.

Sam and I launched a coffee shop in Jozi a little over 8 years ago and handed it over late last year. Reason? We felt our season was done after an incredible, joyful, painful, yet beautiful 8-year journey.

We started from the ground up with everything against us. Bankrupt, fighting extreme anxiety & depression, no experience in the industry, but a dream in our hearts and a desire to use coffee as a catalyst for impact.

Our coffee shop, DC Coffee Co, was our baby and a vehicle from which we got to love and genuinely serve the community around us. Why? God told us to and let’s be honest, we all need more love.

See, friends, we live in a world where cruelty and hatred reign supreme and love and kindness have become the anomaly. This shouldn’t be, and the power is in our hands to fight against the streams of society to make a difference. To stand up. To be counted.

DC grew over 8 years to become the most loved local business as voted by Santam and Jacaranda FM & won Best Coffee Shop in Jozi in the year we decided to hand over the reins.

We were at our peak and making a massive difference, but God told us to move on, and so we did. It was painful, it was hard, we fought God on it. But He always knows best. All we are called to do is trust Him and obey. We did.

He had other plans. The Dolphin Coast.

We sold up, packed up, strapped up & made the move. Little planning. Little understanding. But immense faith & trust to enter a beautiful new season.

In the transition, we wrote a book about our journey. The highs and lows of business, the importance of love and kindness, my fight against mental illness, & the community’s power when committed to a cause. The provision of God is also evident.

To make it a little sweeter, we shared our 16 most loved, amazeballs and award-winning cheesecake recipes that happened to win Jozi’s Best Fridge Cheesecake 2023.

Maybe you come from a broken home. Maybe from place where you learned to survive before you learned to dream. Maybe you’ve lost everything. Maybe you’ve lost a version of yourself.

Maybe your mind has become your own worst enemy. Maybe addiction stole years from you. Maybe betrayal broke you.

Maybe you’ve heard words that shattered your world. Maybe you’ve stood on the edge, wondering if the pain was worth surviving 💔💔💔

The world tried to write you off, but you are the plot twist.

Be the moment no one saw coming. The unexpected comeback. Someone who didn't just survive but became stronger, kinder and deeper.

If you’ve made it through let us know ❤️ Let’s show the ones still fighting that hope is real❤️❤️❤️

Friends, 10 Reasons to Visit Big Tree Africa at The Litchi Orchard, and no, this is not a paid post. No one would actually pay for my sub-average thoughts 😂

1. The carrot cake is soooooooooo good , you’ll consider signing a legally binding agreement never to eat cake anywhere else again. Oh, and if you do breach, I’ll inherit your house and car. Thanks a mil, Bill.

2. If impulse buying were an Olympic sport, this place would be your training ground. You think you’re just browsing… but your FNB account knows better. Sies.

3. Forgot to get dressed before rushing to your meeting? No probs, Wendy. They’ve got kickass clothing. Just pull in, upgrade from your towel, and pretend nothing happened.

4. The coffee is strong enough to make you believe in yourself again—and smooth enough to keep you from questioning all your life choices while it kicks in.

5. Need a last-minute gift? Big Tree Africa has accessories and cool finds that make it look like you actually planned ahead and are winning at life. Back at the ranch, we know your brain lingers in flight mood a little too often. No judgement here, or maybe.

6. There’s more variety here than the Kardashians’ relationship lineup. Just Saying.

7. You’ll walk in for “just a coffee” and leave wondering how you now own a new outfit, home decor, and possibly a new personality. Would you like another slice of carrot cake?

8. It’s an amazing family-run business, and if you don’t have family nearby, congratulations, you do now! These guys are your people.

9. It smells ridiculously good: a mix of fresh coffee beans, subtle fragrances, homey vibes, and people who actually enjoy their jobs.

10. Because, honestly, why wouldn’t you? It’s Salt Rock’s one-stop shop for epic stuff, great food, and coffee that fuels your best decisions.

Maybe, just maybe, we’ll see you for some cake soon. Yes, I’d love you to pay. Thanks for offering. 😬

Ciao. 🤸

Behind every person facing mental health struggles, chronic illness, or disability, there’s often someone holding them up, providing care, patience, and love, even when they’re running on empty😮‍💨

Caregiver fatigue is real and the weight of always being strong can take its toll😥 The constant pouring out, the unseen sacrifices, the quiet exhaustion, it’s a lot. Often, the supporters go unnoticed.

So today, if this is you. You are not alone.

If you’re holding space for someone else, we see you❤️ You matter too. Your heart, your rest, your joy, it’s important.

And for the rest of us. Let’s not forget the ones who never forget others. Reach out to someone who carries more than we know❤️

Vaalies by the coast. 😎

So friends, when pulling into the Dolphin Coast, we knew we would need to acclimatise to the local vaabs. Here are our 10 tips for a Vallie transition.

1. Plakkies - You need a pair, so bag one. Your feet deserve to be naked in these humid temps, so don’t restrict them with feet corsets.

2. Fully naked feet are also permissible. Back in Jozi, you’d be frowned upon when stepping into Woolies with your foot fingers entirely on display. Not here. You can strut barefoot, grab your sourdough and bum paper, pay and depart. No frowns, no questions asked. Yes, the occasional eye-roll, but those are the Vaalies.

3. Bruh, Bro and Bra are compulsory and relevant in pretty much every convo. Bru, what a kiff morning my bro, please fix my bra....I mean check that barrel roll bra. I’ve even begun calling my daughter bro, I need help.

4. Running is a big deal here. So big the groups commandeer both lanes of the road, imitating a political march at PM, by IDK and IDC, ASAP to ABC. Yes, I’m finished with acronyms. You’re welcome. But fear not; I’ve learnt how to pavement ramp, only taking out the walkers. Sorry for you.

5. Everything is like 5 minutes away, unless it isn’t. Yoh guys, in Jozi we’re used to long commutes and cray cray traffic as the norm. Not here. So bad, you avoid get-togethers with people outside the bubble. 6 mins can tsek! We’ll keep that one friend and call it a day.

6. No one let’s you in at traffic circles, parking lots, school lots, business lots, lots of lots, bags of snots. Seriously, drivers maintain the mindsets of blue light brigades, letting nothing get between them and their mission, like getting to Simbithi for a massage. I’ve learnt not to challenge the system as I don’t want someone staring into my soul and judging my inner child and hair do. Some things will never change. Roll with it, bruh.

7. Wear jeans during summer, and you’re a chop. The jeans become a hot sauna, and your legs will lose so much sweat, I mean fluid, that your leg circumference will rival toothpicks. Leg weight loss for the win, but a beer belly is still fully intact.

8 - 10 - I’m out of characters. TBC.

Oh yes, frow a bucket over your pip 🤷‍♂️

Yesterday I spent some time with a group of beautiful women, and we found ourselves talking about this culture we are living in 😐 One where no one is allowed to see our failures, weaknesses or struggles. We create an illusionist rod of which we measure ourselves by the versions of others we see.

It's exhausting and fake 🥴

For the sake of womanhood, of motherhood of simply being human, we need to lay this stuff down 😮‍💨 Life is hard, and the lessons we learn along the way are worth sharing even if we're still stuck in the lesson. That's what makes the victory so authentic, meaningful and helpful - because rain doesn't last forever. It's easy to share in retrospect once you've got the story pinned down and you're living in a 'better now' but what about during? We need to be brave enough to let others in.

Yes you'll be disappointment by those who don't care but there are those who do and actually the majority want real connections and community. It starts with us though, breaking the mould. Imagine if we could let go of the act and build something real. How much stronger and more confident would we be? How much deeper and purer our relationships would be?

Are you with me?

PS. If you're interested in joining a mom's group (under the leadership of ) in Ballito that speak about these raw honest truths with zero sugar coating, please DM me for the details 🥰 We would love to meet you and grow together as moms and women 💕

Need coffee, kindness and a kickass start to your day? So do I. I’ll reverse kick my bum now.

Well, if you said yes to the above, I’ve got just the spot for you! Jozi mates, hold your pants. Gangster Paradise options will follow. Today it’s about some legends in Ballito. 🥳

World meet Coffee LAB, some of the kindest humans you’ll ever meet, and they just happened to sn**ch the best coffee shop in KZN in the Battle of the Beans competition. No, they didn’t need to slap Led Zeppelin in the G-tar. It was Beans, not Battle of the Bands, bruh. If you’re lost at this point, keep reading skippy, it shouldn’t make sense soon.

How did they win? Thanks for asking.

Well, because they’re freeken legends, that’s why! But also, which might be important to note, a team of 30 judges went undercover like dodgy drug mules, visiting more than 250 coffee shops across KZN, assessing them in various categories, including flavour, appearance, presentation, barista skills and overall coffee shop vibe. Let’s say, they smashed those marks and some.

From super humble beginnings, which included the homelessness of the founder, Sbu, at one stage, these okes are a living testimony of what grit, determination, hope and, well, never giving up look like.

They deserve all the praise, appreciation, and support, and I mean that with all the blood and creatine in my veins.

So, if you’re in KZN, do yourself a flavour (see what I did, lame) and visit them at the Gallery inside the Lifestyle Centre Ballito and experience what love, kindness and customer experience feels like from the time you enter to the time you exit via the firepole. Ok, no firepole. Sorry if your inner child got excited.

If you’re not in KZN but are pulling in for holidays at some stage, Swing by them.

If neither of the above applies, please pass Go & do not collect 20 Bob. But, maybe, give them a follow and even a kind comment because that costs mahala but can make a world of difference in their day.

Coffee Lab, we salute you for making your town a better place. Ngiyabonga Buthi’s!

Jozi mates, I love you long time, and I’ll be sharing some legendary local joints soon. Places not zols. Stand down cops.

Have a kickass day 🙌

After failure, after frustration, after disappointment, after exhaustion, after heartache, be the person who masters up the courage to believe that a new attempt can manifest a new outcome.

Be the person who still tries.

Welcome to our page. Here is a little intro as to who we are, why we've landed up on the Dolphin Coast and what we hope this space to be all about😀❤️

I am Sam, married to Neil, have two amazing kiddos and are newbies to the area. Let me start by saying that moving here was a calling😅

A calling to rebuild again and to step into a new purpose. It wasn't easy getting here and making the decision was probably one of the toughest ones yet for many reasons😭

One of those reasons was that in what seemd like the worst possible timing, we had to let go of something that had become apart of us🥺 - our coffee shop DC Coffee in JHB. We adored that shop❤️ It was there that grace found us. We learned deeply about the power of kindness. We lifted each other up and our store became a beacon of hope in our community❤️

Through it all, we found deep, personal transformation. We were stripped into an ugly mess and then rebuilt with stronger, truer foundations. We learned to be raw and vulnerable and to hold onto hope even when everything felt uncertain. Parts of it almost broke us.

And just when things seemed to start flourishing it was time for a different season. But all of it was intended to set us up for what's next...

We’re ready to keep growing, loving, and serving on the Dolphin Coast. This is our new beginning, and we can’t wait to bring you along as we share our business ventures, discover stories of hope, share adventures and learn about beautiful businesses around🏄‍♀️
