uDubs Radio Reconciliation Day Report
As South Africa marks Reconciliation Day, President Cyril Ramaphosa has reflected on the deep scars left by past political violence, saying many families continue to live with the pain of lost loved ones.
Thousands gathered at the historic Blood River Museum in Nuthu, northern KwaZulu-Natal, where the President delivered the keynote address. He highlighted the province’s history of intense political conflict, particularly the violence between the ANC and the IFP during the 1980s and 1990s, which claimed many lives and tore communities apart.
Despite this painful past, President Ramaphosa emphasized that South Africans chose peace and reconciliation at the dawn of democracy. He noted
that although the majority were victims of an unjust political system, they rejected vengeance in favour of unity, forgiveness, and nation-building.
