*🇿🇦BACKGROUND THREAT*
On 18-08-2025 five (5) suspects committed a cross pavement C.I.T in Buffalo Street, East London.
During the incident, suspects charged at two (2) Fidelity security officers who were on foot, firing at the security officers without warning and before the security officers had a chance to react or resist the violent attack.
The two (2) security officers both sustained gunshot wounds and sadly passed away from their injuries.
One (1) pistol was taken from the security officers, as well as a large amount of cash monies.
CCTV footage from the scene shows the suspects fleeing the scene in a green Hyundai Accent. The registration number could not be identified.
*OPERATION*
On the same day, shortly after the incident, an operational team comprising of East London Tracking Team, East London TRT and Guardian Defence Security was assembled and began gathering and enriching information via various means, including technological resources.
The registration number of the suspects green Hyundai Accent getaway vehicle was established (DWS225EC) with the operational team tracing said vehicle to the Parkside area, where the vehicle was found abandoned and handed over to DPCI for further investigation.
Further Exceptional investigation work by the operational team resulted in a second suspect vehicle being identified.
The second suspect vehicle, a white Suzuki Ertiga, was used to collect the suspects at the location where the initial getaway vehicle was abandoned.
The operational team was able to establish that the second getaway vehicle (Suzuki Ertiga) was making use of cloned number plates (JRM477EC) whilst traveling within the East London area.
Furthermore, the operational team establish that the Suzuki Ertiga in question had in fact traveled from Port Elizabeth to East London in the early morning hours prior to the crime being committed, with number plates CAA650259 fitted during such journey, being the legitimate vehicle registration number of the second getaway vehicle concerned.
Once the operational team had established the legitimate vehicle registration number of the second getaway vehicle, it was established that the vehicle was already approaching Grahamstown on the N2, direction Port Elizabeth.
Information of the second getaway vehicle was provided to Port Elizabeth K9 and Flying Squad, who were able to successfully intercepted the target vehicle.
At the time of the target vehicle being Intercepted, only a driver was found inside of said vehicle.
Following intensive questioning of the driver, the driver confirmed his involvement in the crime and was placed under arrest and handed over to DPCI, with the vehicle processed by LCRC.
During questioning of the driver, the driver explained that just minutes before being intercepted by SAPS, he received a phone call and tip-off that Police were looking for the vehicle, which prompted the driver to stop the vehicle and for the suspects therein to exit the vehicle and proceed on foot, ultimately avoiding arrest.
Follow-up operations to trace the outstanding suspects are on-going.
