The Premier of the Free State, MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae, has welcomed and expressed profound appreciation to the President of the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa, for approving that the funeral of the late Mr Thembeni Skully Nxangisa be accorded the status of a Special Provincial Official Funeral Category 1.
The President has further directed that the National Flag be flown at half-mast throughout the Province of the Free State from the day preceding the funeral until the evening of the funeral service, in honour of the late Comrade Nxangisa.
Welcoming the declaration, Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae said:
“On behalf of the Government and the people of the Free State, we welcome and deeply appreciate President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to accord Comrade Thembeni Skully Nxangisa a Special Provincial Official Funeral Category 1. This declaration is a fitting and deserved tribute to a man who dedicated the greater part of his life to the struggle for liberation, the advancement of our democratic dispensation, and the service of the people of the Free State and South Africa”
Comrade Thembeni Nxangisa distinguished himself as a disciplined cadre of the African National Congress, a principled leader and an exemplary public servant whose contribution to the province and the country will remain part of the enduring legacy of South Africa’s democratic journey.
He served with humility, integrity and unwavering commitment. He led with conviction, inspired many through his wisdom, and remained steadfast in his dedication to improving the lives of our people. This national recognition affirms that his life’s work transcended political office; it was a life devoted to service and to the ideals for which so many fought
Premier Letsoha-Mathae extended her heartfelt condolences to the Nxangisa family, friends, comrades and all those whose lives were touched by Comrade Nxangisa.
“As the Free State prepares to bid farewell to one of its finest sons, we do so with gratitude for his immense contribution and with the resolve to honour his memory by continuing the work of building a united, non-racial, non-sexist, democratic and prosperous South Africa. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire present and future generations”.
Members of the Executives also visited t family of the late Nxangisa this week including the ANC Chairperson in Free State, Mxolisi Dukwana and Premier MaQueen Letsoha Mathae.
