The police in the Mangaung District have successfully arrested two suspects in connection with the brutal murder of a 19-year-old man in Freedom Square on Christmas Day.

According to police reports, the tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, 25 December 2025. The victim was standing outside his place of residence in Freedom Square when he was approached by members of a local gang. It is alleged that the suspects greeted the victim using a gang-related hand gesture. Although the victim responded, his reaction was reportedly interpreted as an indication that he belonged to a rival gang.

The situation quickly escalated, with the suspects allegedly launching a violent attack and stabbing the 19-year-old multiple times. Kagisanong Police, together with Emergency Medical Services, were immediately summoned to the scene. Sadly, the victim was declared deceased on arrival.

Following the murder, the Mangaung District Operational Command Centre (DOCC) initiated a swift investigation. Through intelligence-led operations, the suspects were traced to Bophelong in Turflaagte, where they were found hiding.

Two suspects, aged 18 and 19, were arrested and formally charged with murder. They are expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court soon. Police have confirmed that investigations are continuing as they work to uncover all circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Mangaung District police have reiterated their commitment to combating gang-related violence and ensuring the safety of communities, particularly during the festive season.

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has confirmed a tragic incident during the ex*****on of Operation Corona at Macadamia, which has resulted in the death of one member and the disappearance of another, Friday, 26 December 2025.

According to an official SANDF statement, the incident occurred on Thursday while members of the SANDF Military Police were carrying out routine patrol duties as part of the operation. A military vehicle attempted to cross a river that had become heavily flooded due to recent adverse weather conditions.

During the crossing, the vehicle was overwhelmed by the strong current, causing two SANDF members to be swept away by the floodwaters.

The body of one member has since been recovered, while the second member remains missing.

A large-scale search and rescue operation is currently underway. The South African Police Service (SAPS) Diving Rescue Team, supported by an SANDF Oryx helicopter, has been deployed and continues to search the area in an effort to locate the missing member.

Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Ms Angie Motshekga, together with Deputy Ministers, senior defence officials and the Chief of the SANDF, General Rudzani Maphwanya, have conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased member.

Operation Corona forms part of the SANDF’s ongoing border safeguarding and national security duties.

The Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport has announced alternative service points following the temporary closure of the Lengau Testing Station on 22 December 2025.

In a statement issued on Monday, the department said arrangements have been put in place to ensure that motorists continue to receive services with minimal disruption.
Motorists needing to renew their vehicle licence disks have been advised to make use of selected Post Offices across Bloemfontein. These include Fitchardspark, Preller Square, CBD, Bainsvlei, Langenhovenpark, Mimosa Mall and Kagisanong Post Offices.

The department spokessperson, Hillary Mophete, assured clients who had bookings for learner’s licences and driving licences at the Lengau Testing Station that their appointments will not be affected. "The department can confirm that all affected clients will be contacted with new dates, adding that no existing bookings will be lost due to the closure," Mophete said.

Furthermore, the department further stated that efforts are underway to continue service delivery smoothly at the identified Post Offices while updates on further developments will be communicated to the public.

The Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport has apologised for any inconvenience caused and has encouraged motorists to make use of the alternative service points during this period.

The two suspects taken in for questioning over the fatal shooting of well-known media personality Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, have now been formally detained by Gauteng police and are expected to face murder charges.

The attack occurred on 16 December outside Zambesi House in the Johannesburg CBD, where Stock had been providing security services.

Police initially believed that three individuals were involved in the ambush.

Brenda Muridili, SAPS Gauteng spokesperson, confirmed that the investigation remains active as authorities search for additional accomplices.

"The two persons of interest that have been brought in for questioning during the early hours of 22 December 2025 have been detained and will be charged with the murder of DJ Warras," said Muridili.

"They are due to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday."

A bus accident occurred around 01:50, approximately 20 kilometers past Edenburg on the N1 South Highway en route to Bloemfontein, killing 3 people, on 22 December 2025.

The bus, carrying 70 passengers and attached to a trailer, overturned, resulting in injuries and fatalities.

According to Mr Sipho Towa, Chairperson of the Road Incident Management Systems, multiple emergency services responded promptly and were on the scene.

The injured were taken to various hospitals, with National District Hospital receiving 29 patients, including 24 adults and 5 paediatric patients. Albert Nzula District Hospital received 31 patients, with 11 classified as P2, while Pelonomi Trauma Unit received 9 patients and Botshabelo District Hospital received 2.

The 3 fatalities reported comprise 1 male and 2 females, all above 30, and their bodies have been transported to the Bloemfontein Mortuary.

One lane is temporarily closed, with traffic moving on the remaining open lane.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution and expect delays.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested for a gruesome murder near the N8 National Road in Bloemfontein today, 20 December 2025.

According to South African Police Service (SAPS) Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane, the police were alerted to a situation where a male person was seen holding what looked like a human skull down a stormwater drainage tunnel underneath Central Park Complex at about 15:00 this afternoon.

"A huge rock with bone fragments, flesh, and brain matter was found on the side of N8 National Road near Nathan Street, Old East End. Further search led to the discovery of a beheaded body in the stream not far from where the rock, bone fragments, and flesh were found,"Covane said.

The suspect, who was arrested at the scene, claimed he killed the victim to prove he's the messiah.

A case docket of murder, with an additional charge of violation of the co**se, was opened at Heidedal Police Station.

The Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport has announced on their website the temporary closure of the Lengau Registration Authority following serious safety concerns at the building on Friday, 19 December.

This comes after an inspection by the Department of Employment and Labour, which resulted in a Prohibition Notice being issued. The notice highlighted major building defects, including cracks in the walls, damaged plumbing and overall structural weakness. The building has since been declared unsafe, forcing the Department to close the office in line with legal requirements to protect staff and members of the public.

The Department acknowledged that the closure comes at an inconvenient time, particularly ahead of the festive season when many motorists are looking to renew their vehicle licence discs before travelling. It has apologised for any frustration and inconvenience caused by the disruption of services.

The department's spokesperson, Ms Hillary Mophete, said the building’s condition is linked to long-standing budget constraints, which have affected maintenance at registration offices.

"Concerns around limited funding have previously been raised with Provincial Treasury, and engagements are continuing to secure funds to repair the building and avoid similar issues in future," said Ms Mophete. "In the meantime, the Department is working on temporary measures to limit the impact on service delivery and has committed to communicating alternative arrangements once they are finalised," Ms Mophete concluded.

The public has been assured that the safety of both staff and clients remains a top priority, and that efforts are being made to restore full services as soon as possible. Residents are advised to make use of services available at the Post Office where possible.

The Department has thanked the public for their patience and understanding, adding that further updates will be provided as progress is made.
