FIFA has officially docked points from Bafana Bafana after the team fielded midfielder Teboho Mokoena while he was suspended for accumulated yellow cards in a World Cup qualifier against Lesotho.

The Mamelodi Sundowns star played in South Africa’s 2-0 victory in Polokwane back in March, despite having picked up two bookings earlier in the campaign, which should have ruled him out.

In a statement, FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee confirmed SAFA breached Article 19 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code and Article 14 of the World Cup preliminary regulations. Mokoena meanwhile, has been handed a warning.

“The match in question to have been forfeited by the representative team of South Africa by a score of 3-0.”

As a result, Hugo Broos’ men have been stripped of the three points from that match, with FIFA awarding Lesotho a 3-0 win. The decision sees Benin leapfrog Bafana at the top of Group C, leaving South Africa now chasing qualification with two games left.

Bafana now face a tough finish to the group stage, needing back-to-back wins against Zimbabwe and Rwanda to keep their World Cup hopes alive. Benin, who lead the group, will finish their campaign against Rwanda and Nigeria.

South Africa’s ambassador to France, Nkosinathi Emmanuel Mthethwa, has been found dead in Paris.

According to French publications, he is believed to have fallen from the 22nd floor of a hotel in the Porte Maillot area.

Reports indicate that Mthethwa had gone missing on Monday afternoon in the 16th arrondissement.

The Department of International Relations noted the reports and will comment officially at a later stage

Police in Mangaung Metro are appealing to the public for assistance in tracking down three suspects linked to the execution-style murder of a 51-year-old man in Bloemspruit.

The police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane confirmed that the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 28 September 2025, when the victim was gunned down while seated in a car in the Freedom Square area.“According to witness statement, the deceased was shot at about 04:00 am while sitting in a White Toyota Vitz. The deceased was in the company of three suspects when gunshots went off,” he said.

Covane said that the police found the body of the victim, slumped behind the steering wheel with gunshot wounds at the back of his head. The victim was rushed to a local hospital where he was declared dead.

Investigators revealed that the suspects fled the scene on foot towards George Lubbe Street. “Three (3) suspects; one wearing Black clothing with a balaclava, the other wearing Grey or White jacket, and the third one wearing Brown jacket all walked towards George Lubbe Street after committing the heinous crime,” he said.

Crime scene experts recovered two spent cartridges, and preliminary checks confirmed that the vehicle belonged to a rental company in Kempton Park.

Covane urged that any member of the public who might have information that can help the police with the investigation and the arrest of the suspects is requested to contact Lieutenant Colonel Sias Smit at 063 692 1196. Alternatively, the information can be submitted on MySAPS App or call the SAPS Crime Stop number 08600 10111.

The Botshabelo Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 55-year-old wife to 20 years of direct imprisonment for the murder of her husband, Moorosi Alfred Thisana.

According to the police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane, the incident took place at a tavern early last year in Botshabelo. “On 9 March 2024 at a tavern in L-Section, Botshabelo, the couple was seen together. A heated argument ensued between the two and as a result, Dimakatso Triny Tyumbu stabbed her husband, Alfred Moorosi Thisana with knife,” he said.

Tyumbu was arrested shortly after the incident by the Botshabelo police.

After months of investigation and court proceedings, Tyumbu was found guilty. “On Thursday 18 September 2025, the accused person, Dimakatso Triny Tyumbu was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years direct imprisonment by Botshabelo Magistrate Court,” said Covane.

A multi-disciplinary team of law enforcers made major arrests in Welkom when they arrested two foreign nationals for possession of fake goods valuing R500 000.

According to the Free State police spokesperson Captain Loraine Earle, the team orchestrated a compliance and disruptive operation on Friday, 26 September. “During the operation, two suspects aged 47 and 36 were found with large quantities of illicit ci******es and other counterfeit items. The goods were seized,” said Earle.

She added that the confiscated items included hundreds of boxes of fake ci******es of various brands (Chief, Re*****on Gold, Savannah, Sahawi, and Ossum). As well as rolling papers, skin-lightening creams, and boxes of tablets believed to be sold illegally. All with an estimated streeet value of R500 000

The suspects were arrested on charges of possession of illegal ci******es and contravention of the Counterfeit Goods Act. “They will appear before the Welkom Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 29 September 2025,” she said.

Operation Dudula's latest campaign is sparking controversy in Soweto's schools. The movement's leader, Zandile Dabula, claims that children of foreign nationals should attend private schools and pay their own fees, citing limited resources and high demand in public schools. Dabula asserts that this initiative prioritises South African children in the education system, ensuring they receive preference in accessing quality education.

Properly documented foreign children would be allowed to attend school, but would be placed last in line for admission after all South African children have been accommodated. Operation Dudula has delivered warning letters to schools, including Lofentse High School for Girls and Noordgesig Primary School, cautioning against prioritising foreign nationals over South African children.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has opened a criminal case against Operation Dudula, accusing them of inciting violence and targeting foreign nationals at healthcare facilities. The EFF's actions highlight growing tensions surrounding Operation Dudula's activities. Dabula stresses that her members are not there to disrupt teaching and learning, but rather to ensure South African children are prioritised.
