A 58-year-old suspect who had been on the run since 2 September 2025 following a cash-in-transit robbery on the N8 near Bloemfontein has been arrested. The suspect is the owner of the house where vehicles, rifles, ammunition, and explosives were recovered shortly after the robbery.

It is alleged that the cash delivery van was traveling on the N8 when a group of armed suspects attacked. They took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene. Later on the same day, a marked police vehicle was shot at by suspects believed to be part of the robbery. No one was injured.

The multi-disciplinary team was immediately assembled to trace the suspects. Intelligence led the team to a house in Section H Botshabelo where two vehicles fitting the description of those used in the robbery were found.

POLICE INVESTIGATE GRUESOME DISCOVERY IN HEIDEDAL BLOEMFONTEIN

Heidedal police in Bloemfontein have launched an investigation following the discovery of a deceased female's body in a dilapidated building. The body, which was found decapitated and partially submerged, was discovered by two children playing next to the building.

This afternoon two children were playing near a former nightclub when they noticed what appeared to be a body floating in the flooded basement. They immediately alerted adults, who contacted the Heidedal police.

Due to the difficult conditions, the Bloemfontein Diving and Rescue Unit was dispatched to the scene to assist in recovering the remains. The body was discovered to be in a state of decomposition, consisting only of a torso and legs. The victim was wearing multi-colored leggings and a single Soviet sneaker on her left foot.

Police are currently making efforts to drain the water from the building in hopes of locating the missing upper part of the body. An inquest has been opened, and a thorough investigation is underway.

Heidedal police are appealing to the public for assistance and anyone with information and may be able to identify the deceased, is urged to contact Captain Wilson at the Heidedal police station at 082 553 6307 or provide information anonymously via the Crime Stop hotline at 08600 10111 or through the MySAPS App.
