June 16 isn't just a history it's a reminder of the youth of 1976

Honoring the likes of Hector Peterson, Tsietsi Mashinini, Sam Nzima, and all the students who died fighting for the youth of today.

They were brutally killed and treated badly.

They fought for us to get access to jobs, skills, education, and economic participation.

Let us stand up with the voices and shape SA's future and refuse an inferior future.

Sad news for Mzansi as it loses 2-0 against the Mexicans on a game attended by 80,802 people at Mexico City Stadium.

JOINT OPERATION "SHANELA II" NETS ILLEGAL FIREARM AND CASH IN ZASTRON ROADBLOCK
By. Steven van vollenhoven Kgolagano FM

In a coordinated effort to tighten border security and curb the influx of illegal activities, a multi disciplinary joint borderline operation, dubbed Operation Shanela II, yielded positive results yesterday the 8 the June 2026 on the R726 near Zastron.

On Monday, 8 June 2026, at approximately 12:00, law enforcement agencies established a high-visibility roadblock on the R726 road. The integrated operation brought together various specialized units, including:
The Anti-Gang Unit (Bloemfontein)
K9 Unit (Welkom)
South African National Defence Force (SANDF)
Public Order Policing (Bloemfontein)
Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (Bloemfontein)
Zastron SAPS local member's
Stock Theft Unit (Wepener)
Department of Home Affairs

During the roadblock, members intercepted a suspicious orange coloured VW vehicle with three occupants, two males and one female. Officers requested permission to search the vehicle, which led to a startling discovery. Upon searching the interior, members found a brown school bag containing a pair of shoes.

Hidden inside one of the shoes was a brown and silver revolver firearm, fully loaded with five rounds of live ammunition. A further search of the vehicle also revealed a large, unexplained sum of cash hidden inside a brown jacket.

The suspects could not produce a valid license for the firearm. Consequently, the 31-year-old driver (male) and the 23-year-old female passenger were immediately arrested. They face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition as well as Money laundering

Investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the firearm and the large sum of cash, as well as whether the suspects are linked to other crimes in the province.

Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli
Free State Provincial Corporate Communication and Media Liaison said
the suspects are expected to appear in the Zastron Magistrate’s Court soon.

HAWKS ARREST POLICE SERGEANT FOR ALLEGED CORRUPTION AT LEBOMBO PORT OF ENTRY
By. Steven van vollenhoven

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) has arrested a 42-year-old police sergeant stationed at the Lebombo Port of Entry for alleged corruption following a targeted operation conducted on 8 June 2026.

The arrest stems from information received through Crime Intelligence regarding criminal activities at the Lebombo Port of Entry. Intelligence indicated that criminal syndicates involved in vehicle theft, car hijackings, and vehicle insurance fraud were allegedly colluding with corrupt law enforcement officials to facilitate the illegal movement of stolen and fraudulently obtained vehicles from South Africa into Mozambique.

According to the investigation, corrupt officials allegedly received financial gratification, with payments varying depending on the type of vehicle being allowed to cross the border without interception or arrest.

An enquiry was subsequently registered. Authorisation was obtained to conduct a covert operation.
Members of the Hawks' Serious Corruption Investigation (SCI) in Nelspruit, supported by Tactical Operations Management Section (TOMS), Crime Intelligence, and Surveillance teams, successfully executed the operation.

During the operation, the suspect, who was on duty at the time, allegedly accepted a gratification payment from an undercover agent.
The suspect was arrested at the Lebombo Port of Entry and found in possession of the operational funds amounting to R80 000.00, which were recovered during the arrest. A case of corruption has been registered for further investigation.

Hawks Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Magonseni Nkosi said that the identity of the suspect is being withheld pending his first court appearance. The suspect is expected to appear before the Komatipoort Magistrate's Court on 10 June 2026.

The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in Mpumalanga, Major General Nico Ge**er, said the Hawk's remain committed to rooting out corruption within law enforcement structures and ensuring that those who abuse positions of trust are held accountable. He commended the team for their excellent work and trust this arrest sends out a stern warning to corrupt officials.
