Convicted Ra**st, Lazola Matanga finally serves sentence

Convicted ra**st Lazola Matanga (35) was on 18 July 2025, officially remanded to begin serving his 10-year direct imprisonment sentence. He was taken into custody immediately following court proceedings at the Selosesha Regional Court.

Matanga was convicted in September 2022 for the r**e of a 23-year-old woman. The incident took place in April 2019 at a church mission house in Thaba Nchu, where Matanga, was always around young people at the church and preyed on vulnerable youth.

He forced himself on the victim when his charn failed to impress her.

The case went to trial, resulting in a conviction and sentence of 10 years’ direct imprisonment.

Matanga applied for leave to appeal, which was dismissed by the Supreme Court of Appeal. He failed to report as instructed to begin his sentence, leading to a warrant being issued for his arrest.

Although he briefly appeared at the Thaba Nchu Magistrate’s Court on 26 March 2025 and was granted an extension to file an application with the Constitutional Court, he once again failed to appear on the due date of 5 May 2025. A second warrant for his arrest was issued.

On 29 June 2025, Matanga was arrested in East London, then transported to the Free State, where he appeared in court on 30 June 2025 and has officially started serving his sentence in Prison.

Body of 70-year old Missing Qwaqwa woman found in a river

The body of Malefu Julia Nkutha(70) from Phuthaditjhaba in Qwaqwa has been found and was retrieved between Kollatsoene and Phuthaditjhaba river on Thursday 24 July.

Malefu was reported missing and was last seen on 19 July. The body of the 70-year old woman was retrieved with the assistance of her family who pointed her out.

The Central University of Technology (CUT) has congratulated Her Royal Majesty, Kgosi Gaboilelwe Moroka of the Barolong Boo Seleka traditional community in Thaba Nchu, on receiving a prestigious Professional Higher Doctorate from the International University of Entreprenology, (GULL) under the leadership of President Dr. James A. Omps.

Kgosi Gaboilelwe Moroka, leader of Barolong Boo Seleka Nation in Thaba Nchu, received a Professional Higher Doctorate from the University of Entreprenology.

This recognition, bestowed upon her for her visionary leadership, commitment to community development, and lifelong service, highlights her global impact.

Dr. Omps commended Kgosi Moroka’s leadership

“Your body of work and the example that you have set certify that this credential, beyond honorary, is wholly and completely earned.”

Dr Omps praised Kgosi’s courage, wisdom, and strength, describing her as a well-placed lighthouse, guiding society through change.
