Washington, D.C.
Your Excellency,
On behalf of the Supreme Spiritual Authority of the Alawite Community, and in my capacity as President of the Supreme Alawite Islamic Council in Syria and the Diaspora, I address you with a deep sense of urgency and responsibility.
We affirm that the security of every individual member of the Alawite community is inseparable from the collective security of the community as a whole. Despite continuous provocations, grave violations, and escalating threats, we have consciously chosen a path of full peacefulness and restraint in order to prevent further bloodshed.
However, we are gravely alarmed by the ongoing criminal acts and deliberate targeting of civilians in the village of Dweir Baabda, in the countryside of Jableh. We urgently call for the immediate cessation of these acts and the withdrawal of armed elements from civilian areas.
We respectfully urge the United States, as a global leader and a defender of human rights, to take immediate and serious action. We call upon your administration to engage with international partners and human rights organizations to ensure protection for civilians and accountability for those responsible for these violations.
Should these violations continue without response, our community will be forced to take to peaceful public action in defense of its dignity and its fundamental right to life. We therefore renew our appeal for a credible and effective international intervention and for the opening of a rational political process that guarantees the dignity, security, and right of self-determination of the Alawite community.
We firmly believe that the only sustainable solution to prevent chaos, terrorism, and internal conflict in Syria is the implementation of a decentralized federal political system through practical and timely measures.
We place our trust in the moral leadership of the United States and its commitment to justice, stability, and the protection of vulnerable communities.
Respectfully,
Sheikh Ghazal Ghazal
President
Supreme Alawite Islamic Council
Syria and the Diaspora
