Meet Bonolo Nyatshane Bonolo , one of the four finalists selected for the ACT x AfroGeek Rising Talent Competition 2026!

Bonolo is an illustrator passionate about character design and visual development. Her work explores personality, expression, colour and storytelling, drawing inspiration from animation, music and the world around her.

Her finalist artwork, Iyanu, showcases her approach to character creation and visual storytelling.

Meet Zibanzi Khumalo banzi, one of the four finalists selected for the ACT x AfroGeek Rising Talent Competition 2026!

Banzi is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans traditional ink, paint and digital illustration.

Their finalist artwork, Crime Alley, introduces Nomafu, a mysterious female superhero with the power to manipulate the weather. Drawing on African symbolism, identity and ancestral meaning, Nomafu is imagined as a hero for Africa and beyond.

Meet Lethabo Julie Boshomane, one of the four finalists selected for the ACT x AfroGeek Rising Talent Competition 2026!

Julie is a digital artist specialising in character design and the objects and props that shape their stories.

Her finalist artwork, Killer Elephant, introduces Elephant, a former bouncer and bodyguard who uses her ancestral strength to protect those who cannot protect themselves. Inspired by the Tlou, Elephant embodies unshakable strength and the power to stand up for the vulnerable.

Xolani is a self-taught digital artist whose work explores African identity, cultural heritage and ancestral strength through vibrant digital illustration.

His finalist artwork, Sobhuza, introduces an immortal Swati king blessed with the power of lightning by his ancestors, now navigating a modern world where he must confront the forces threatening society.

💥 ACT ⁙ Afro Geek Festival

ACT is proud to continue its partnership with festival through the ACT x Afro Geek Rising Talent Competition, a closed call created exclusively for ACT Nyoloha Scholarship Programme Visual and Digital Arts alumni.

Building on ACT’s participation in Afro Geek Fest in 2025, this year’s collaboration celebrates African creativity, visual storytelling and the power of imagining our own heroes through art.

Sponsored by XP-Pen, the competition challenges invited alumni to create a graphic novel or book cover featuring an African superhero, bringing together art, culture, futurism, mythology, fantasy and Pan-African geek culture.
